Constant effect not working

Post by Magelord648 »

On my xbox (GOTY) version I cannot for some reason get the constant effect while enchanting. My enchant level is 62, I'm using golden saints in grand soulgems and a daedroth in Azura's star. I have also tried going to an enchanter. Same problem. Please someone help me. I really want to make a shielding robe. (and other stuff)

Can the items you're trying to enchant take the full charge necessary to maintain a constant effect? If not, much of that power will be blown away.

Daedroths won't produce a constant effect. Golden Saints and Ascended Sleepers are the only souls you can use to achieve a constant affect.
Unless your intelligence is a ridiculous, artificially pumped level you can't create constant effect items by yourself.

However, taking a Grand Soul Gem containing an Ascended Sleeper to an enchanter should work....
What quality of robe are you using? For enchanting you should probably be using either extravagant or, preferably, exquisite because they have a lot more enchantment points.

If you are doing all of the above.... it is possible you have a bug of some kind.

Game Faqs has some very good guides on enchanting, you might want to take a look at them: http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin ... 13818.html

I'm doing every thing above. Also You can get constant effect from skeleton champion and upwards. My problem is not not being able to enchant the item but not getting the constant effect option. I am using items that I have been able to enchant with constant effect before.

You should *only* be able get constant effect with Ascended Sleepers and Golden Saints......
So.. if you've been managing to do this with skeleton champions and similar creatures that makes no sense...

Agreed. And aren't skeleton champions undead? I seem to recall being unable to grab souls from the undead.

According to rookierookie (or buck in the telvanni walkthrough) you can but I havent tried. You do get CE with Winged twilights and storm antoroches. THAT, i have done before. You can take souls from the undead as in balmora mages guild there is a soul gem with a skeleton in it.

I had no part in the GameBanshee walkthrough. You can trap souls from undead, but only Ascended Sleeper and Golden Saint souls can be used for CE items.

The armoured skeletons mod makes skeletons NPC's... That may be what it is...

Soulgem needs a value of 80000 or 800000 or more to produce CE items... Ascended sleepers and Golden Saints are the only SPAWNING creatures that have this...

Edit - Magelord may have a mod that alters soul values...

Good point. If he has mods, all bets are off about which critters can yield souls, even among the undead. But Magelord, at the same time, that could be throwing off your attempts to use them for CE. I'd suggest checking those readmes. You could always list in full your mods.

Dunno how XBOX works, but...I modded the hell out of my game and character with the construction set, and even with maxed stats, enchant, and I mean, maxed to the point, before the game crashes, not to 100...I couldn't do CE enchantments on my own. Irritated me to no end. Then again, I had the original version, that may be something which was changed in the GOTY version.

Ascended Sleepers and Golden Saints are the only ones yeah. You need a certain amount of value to a soul to be able to that. Modding the enchant value of a soul would alter what it is capable of though. I tested that one by bumping up the value on slaughterfish. Worked great, got boring. :(

Though, from what I gather, reading his first post... it sounds as though Magelord is playing on Xbox... so I would imagine he isn't using mods.....

Meh, if you know the right people who know what they are doing, you can alter an XBOX and mod whatever games you want to I do believe. I think it involves some risky modifications to the actual hardware of the system though.

Risky and not discussable on GameBanshee, because Buck has told us Microsoft regards all *discussion* of the subject as illegal.

Sorry, honestly didn't realize it was illegal. *shrugs* Found it stupid to risk that kind of damage to be honest.

My PC version is fine and my xbox has not been altered in any way.

Then unless the game changed from my version to the GOTY version in what works for CE, Golden Saints and Ascended sleepers should be all you get CE from. Also, unless it was changed from the original PC version to the GOTY XBOX version, don't bother making any strong enchantments yourself. CE is out of the question, and very strong ones will fail as well. Just find enough gold to pay a guild enchanter to do them. I spent a week and a half once altering my stats and spawning golden saints and attempting to create my own enchantments on that nature. They ALL failed. Even with 300 in all my stats and skills. Realistically, at 100 for Enchant and Intelligence, you should be a master of it and be able to do anything you wanted, but not so in this game.

Fortify Intelligence potions, Mag. Many, gulp 'em all down. It's amazing what you can enchant successfully after that. Did you try this, and it not work for you?

Magelord, I don't know what to suggest. You should not be able to fill soulgems from the undead in an unmodded game, only those two critters furnish the means to create CE enchantments. I'm stymied.

Nope, I didn't bother with potions. I opened the command console and quite literally, upped my skills and attributes to the point right before the game crashed. I don't so much play games any longer as much as test their limits. I was never able to create a CE enchantment, even with my skills and stats going past 800 or so. You were able to create your own?

In an unmodded game, yes. But I found it too cheesy after that, and added a mod (Sri's Alchemy) that eliminated FI potions, making CE only possible if done through a professional enchanter.
