My earlier post wasn’t directed specifically at you or anyone else in particular (I would have let you know if my comments were directly referring to you).

N/A see above response. Though one should always feel free to speak their mind (that is the name of this forum, after all ;) ).

Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I don't totally subscribe to your philosophy but I hear the gist what you're getting at and agree with it. Hate and tribalism started this mess, and we can't turn to those same reasons and expect to get out of it. Back for more Weasel. :( Nope.

But I will explain why I support the bombings...or at least my thoughts.

IMO it's not worth the civilian casualites and a pause in the bombing has also been requested from aid orginasations in order to distribute food before the winter. The humanitarian catastrophy is just increasing :(

Would you like a group of Americans in a country that..'has'... links to an attack that killed 4000 + of it's people.

How many Americans died before it enter the Vietnam War? Was there any? One boat was either shot at or sunk. Look at the death toll once America left.

Plus the public didn't even support the war.

I hear people say...so and so tried to invade and loss. But did they loss 4000 + people before they invaded? Was the public behind them?

I don't want to see people die from bombs, but I fear putting American troops in there will in the end cause more blood shed than people can imagine. Not only does the US have most of the support of it's country...but it has lost 4000 + people.

Should another country invade in the US's place? I'm not going to ask would another country be willing to invade. I have faith they will. I'm not going to ask another country to step forward and invade.

But till another solution appears, I will back the bombings. I will not support American troop in there at this time...to me that would be like taking a sack and putting in 20 rattlesnakes...beating the sack with a stick and then dumping the sack out in a room 6ft by 6ft with 20 people in it. In the end you will find 20 people biten...if not dead.

Been lurking for quite some time as far as this thread is concerned and I would like to add some two-cents worth on the issue.

As I quoted in Fable's thread of quotes, "there are no permanent friends (or enemies), only permanent interests..."

America has got to do what she has got to do... with her vested(?) interests in mind.

Am I saying this as a slight against the Americans?

Nope.

It's natural for them and their government to think that way --- just like ANY nation would.

It just so happens that America, with a very few other nations, has the capability to have her goals within relatively easy reach.

How would the world become if a super power state emerge with radical fundamentalists like the Talibans at the helm? I shudder at the thought.

Does that make America inherently evil or the bad guy?

No, I don't think so.

America has a unique status among the community of nations. I see it as an unenviable but heavily-responsibility-laden position.

Just like some of you, I see the root of the problem pointing to the Israel-Palestine conflict. Solutions? Sorry, can't think of a pragmatic approach on this.

As for damage control among concerned members of the world, I've got some insights which I would post later on. Having too long a post doesn't effectively get your point through to some short attention span audiences. :D

This threads current topic seems to be concurrent with the other Afghan related threads that are open so i am closing this one. If you have a specific point with another member about a point raised take it to PM or one of the other threads.
