Well, as expected I have that in consideration also.
But even though Argyle will be magic poor, I seem to recall Rhino stating that mages shouldn't worry about not finding spells, so lets hope that there will be some
But yeah - a sorcerer starts to look interesting now , eventhough I don't like swapping my intelligence for charisma

Hey! I'm workin' on that!
Besides, why do you think I became a paladin? Chicks dig the uniform!

The uniform or the fact that you won't try to take advantage of them?
Or that you are a goody good two shoes.
I am not really sure.
But hey whatever works.
But why does cha affect how many spells you can memorise?

A sorcerer has magic in his "blood" so to speak, it is an inate ability, and then it has been decided that these persons "magnitic personality" decides how well intouch they are with their magic.
I like the philosofy behind the sorcerer more than the wizard (study study study ), but I'm not sure I'm willing to part with the high intelligence
It has always seemed an interesting roleplaying choice to me. A sorceror is a spellcaster because of who he is. It is in his/her blood. They were born with it. They have cultivated innate abilities in magic. The mage, however, is a spellcaster through dedicated study, hard work, and often ambition. It is his desire that pushes him further.

Well I think I'm swayed towards the sorcerer now
The mage hate(TM) and low magic world consideration did the last trick for me - so now I've started working on my new bio as a sorcerer.
And I have actually already worked my stats out too
So now I'm a sorcerer, no messing with scrolls anymore (still gonna have a familiar though, and still leaning towards the weasel - if Thorin hasen't eaten him yet )

Isnt that metagaming?
"The measure of our hearts is taken by the kindness we show to the least of our brethren."

Well all choosing of characters will be meta-gaming
You aren't born into a class per se, so for it not to be meta-gaming, you'd need to factor in your parents, your peers etc etc etc, and then choose your profession, not based on what you like to play, but what your character might choose as his proffesion (and most would problerly then be farmers or some other mundane stuff )
There's nothing wrong with metagaming outside the game, in my humblest of opinions. The mere fact that someone would choose a particular Feat over another because it's more useful could be construed as metagaming.

<OC> Ok, I'm pumping this thread since the game is out now - I still haven't got it yet so I would like some info on how Wizards are handled in the game compared to 3rd Ed rules. </OC>
Greetings mighty Magis of the Blades, my name is Nimiat Throlian, elven wizard and a hopeful addition to your ranks - of course this would be entirely up to the decision of the illustrious Archmage.
My studies in the arcane arts so far have been limited to the number of tomes that my mother have collected over the years of her research. Although the art comes to her naturally, she have written down many of the things that flows from her blood - most of which I cannot even begin to comprehend.
As you can see, my studies are restricted to those tomes, and I have not have any have any experience in the outside world and how the arcane art can be learn for us Wizards. It is my understanding that as we progress in our study, the knowledge and understanding will improve, thus granting us more control over the art. It is also possible to learn from others - although this will cost us an amount of gold depending on the complexity of that which we learn. If that is true than we will be greatly limited to our financial possition - please tell me that this is some cruel joke that my friends are playing on me.
Well, that's all I want to ask. I'll be sitting there in the corner studying if you need me - hope you don't mind me taking up space in your hall, as I am not yet a member of the Blades.
*walks off to the corner and sit down on a chair and starts refreshing my memory of a number of spells*
Xandax enters the room - sees somebody studying.
Bah -studying is for magelings, us with the magi in our blood needs no such things.
OOC: Actually - I don't know if it is possible for wizards to make scrolls in the game (so to "trade" (no magi will freely give away his knowlegde) it with others), I've yet to play a wizard seeing as my heart lies more with the sorcerer .
I'll test it out in-game somehow and return with an answer unless others already have them.
EDIT: did't find any abilities to scripe scrolls - so I doubt you can share your spells with people.
So they were playing a joke on me, although this is much worse than I have previously thought - we Wizards don't even have the ability to scribe scrolls from the spells we know.
Thank you, sorcerer of the Blades. I look forward to joining and meeting the other members of the guild. Farewell for now.
*Put the spellbook back into my backpack and after a small bow towards Xandax, headed out the doors of the Magi Wing*
OOC - Actually I was refering more to the cost of learning spells from scrolls that you find in the game - 3rd Ed says that it costs 100 gold pieces to write one page into the spellbook and that each spell takes 2 pages per level. So it would cost 200 gold pieces to write a level 1 spell into your spellbook. I doubt they have implemented this though; thanks for the info on the scribe scroll thing, I would have liked to see that in the game - something to try making in a module I guess.
Yes - the cost should be scritable I'd guess - the pages of the spell book, I've never quite figured out, so that I don't know.
It would however have been nice to be able to scripe scrolls, so you could, with given funds, be able to cast more spells a day, cause you could cast them as scrolls.
That can, however, been done in online campaigns with a DM where he would give you the scroll. (DM's can create stuff)
It would however be a migthy task for a DM, seeing as I could belive that the wizard wanted to do this often
I may or may not be playing a Sorcerer. I've kinda taken an interest in Clerics as well, and am running one in the single player game now. I have a feeling that raising the dead will become the most wanted ability in Argyle...
Learning spells is free (after you have obtained the scroll, of course).
You can't scribe scrolls. The Feat is not there. NPCs obviously can, since scrolls are abundant.
You can't trade spells. Perhaps our DMs will let us (by spawning scrolls from which to read).
Only so many things can be scripted. Most have to do with combat. There is no event associated with trying to write a spell, so you can't charge gold for that. You could use the onHeartBeat script to keep track of a character's grimmoire and charge gold whenever you find a spell that wasn't there previously, but that would be ugly and impractical.
Argyle is severely anti-mage. What is the Guild's stance on mages in Argyle? A necessary evil?

Thanks a lot Xyx; the last point is an interesting one - how will the Blades react to Mages? From the bio, the Academy was originally created in about 1077 - about 35 years after the appearance of the plague and the hate of the Mages. Apparently there is not much conflict internally, since there are Battle Mages in the guild; although the Guild seems to be focusing more on warriors.
Obviously there will be suspions among the members - once we have actually come together that is; will the bond of the previous members be enough for the new ones to put aside the common hate for Mages?
The period inbetween was one of unknown. No one knew each other so new ideas couldn't be founded. If the grandfather was not a member of the Blades but was, infact, an ardent mage-hater then some of that thought may have gotten through. It is an indivdual's choice...
