Greater good, and all that.
Hitler, like Irenicus, would be more likely to help the god of murder than the you. The idea that anyone could control Irenicus is completely delusional IMHO, he'd turn on you the first chance he got. Your first fight with a powerful opponent would see Irenicus casting time stop and targeting you, not your opponent.

The fact that you would even consider allying with Hitler does make me wonder about your alignment! :p

Well, if you'd played The Longer Road mod you would know that it was in his very best interest to not kill the PC (in the context of the mod ofc). And that if you fail to redeem Irenicus will make sure you wish you hadn't brought him along in the first place. But it is fun to try and redeem him, at least that is what I think. I even thought that my play through when I failed to redeem him was fun, I got a pretty horrible ending (for my PC) but it was enjoyable nevertheless.

The Longer Road is one mod I never wish to play again, I thought it was complete drivel, and you've outlined some of the reaosn I think that.

As for Hitler vs The God of Murder, the latter wouldn't be bad enough for Adolf, he'd need the god of mass murder and genocide! :D

Oh OK. I guess we have to agree to disagree here then.

Yep, with a game like the BG series there are bound to be lots of different opinions, all equally valid usually. The bottom line is we each paid for the game, and we each play and interpret how we like. The great thing about the game is that no matter how are opinions differ, we each enjoy it; which is why it is such a great game.

Have fun with the enhanced edition when it comes out, I certainly hope to; but knowing me there's bound to be something I'll bitch about!

Heads up for those playing BG Trilogy.

The merchant in the red building next door to the Merchants League in the SW section of Baldur's Gate is the same merchant that has a stall by the Western (arched) entrance to Waukeen's Promenade. So you could sell all your gear to him before transferring to SoA and, when you have enough money, buy it back.

I don't actually think this is that much of an expoit; in fact somewhat logical. After all your gear couldn't just vanish, Irenicus must have sold it, and what more logical place than to a merchant close to his hideout!

WHOA!

Have to try that out. Would love to have a couple of the BGI items in SOA. I do recall that guy also is the same merchant in the southwest corner of the main gate section you first enter. On my first run through of BGI I was surprised when a unique item I sold was available for sale by the merchant you mentioned in SW section. Checked later and found the items for sale were identical in both locations. Guess the guy is starting a "franchise." :)

Thanks for the tip!

I have to say this; I don't support the EE or BG3 efforts at this point. My opinion is, the modding community, and the dnd player base is BG3. We've kept this game alive and made it a legend. Everyone else abandoned it. Now I'm supposed to get all giddy and jump on the bandwagon because some corporate money got tossed around? Atari is a mess, they locked out our NWN premium expansions, and now they're seemingly gone forever. Now you're going to reward them with buying an EE edition? My advice, don't do it.

The gaming community has poured forth a tremendous amount of love and energy into, not only game improvements, but also NPC's. I'm sure everyone here knows about the great characters that have been integrated by sites like Gibblerings 3.

If they ever made BG3, I'm pretty sure it would be crap. They shouldn't do it. Diablo 3 fans are reeling right now, just as an example of an old time game revived. Let's face it, they're going to be an easier crowd to please than Baldur's Gate fans, who are Role Playing Game, story fans, character fans, romance fans, tactical combat fans etc etc.

Excitement around getting exposure around BG is nice I suppose, but I don't trust gaming enterprises these days. Could you imagine? Online BG3 with buyable in game content and expansion. That’s where the gaming industry is right now, and you don't want it, believe me.

Let's just wait and see. It may not be entirely bad, provided they don't suddenly decide to load it up with nudity and sexual violence (anyone else tired of being treated like a rape fetishist?)

However, I do agree that some of those mods are excellent in quality and are certainly a challenge. Personally I can't imagine anyone making better content for Kivan brought back into SoA than Domi's mod at G3, and Edwin Romance takes his "shallow comic relief" to the extreme and then back again making him a really great character, funny yet interesting and fleshed out in a nicely probable way. Guys would have a hard time reaching that level, I think.

@reddkey:
To be honest, I find it an amusing project.
They're not "stealing" anything from anyone, they're trying to complete what was missing.
Ofc it's a chance to make money for them... But they're programmers, its their work. And that doesn't mean we can't benefit from it.
If you take a look to the BG:EE forum (I posted it in the near thread) you'll see that everyone can contribute with opinions, features, bugs to remove, ...
And you are, the modders, the fans, all of us kept the game alive and I can't see how can this change if not getting better.
I think this new edition is worth a try, if the game will suck we'll still have our old-dear BG.

Galraen,

Just competed a character in BG1. I sold some items to the merchant you mentioned, but did not fight the final battle with Sarevok. Saved the game and imported the character from it into a new BG2 game. Cleared Chateau Irenicus and after leaving, made a bee line to merchant next the exit in Waukeen's promenade. No joy. Not one item I sold was there. Did I miss something? Do you have mods installed? I was really looking forward to that.

I started playing BG1 and 2 after I heard the news. My first thought, like most others, was indeed BG Tutu. I'm very curious about the result! :)

Here's a nice lengthy interview with Trent Oster.

The first few minutes serve pretty much all the relevant bits of information regarding the Enhanced Edition and what to expect from it.

I have always felt a bit guilty for not having played BG and planned to do so earlier this year. Just before I bought it on GOG the new Jagged Alliance had shipped in february and I didnt start BG yet again. Then I randomly found Trent Oster on twitter and decided to wait for BGEE.
As I am untouched by the game's story Im really looking forward to playing it. Expecting a proper, dozens of hours long, old school campaign in modern day resolution...with little time for gaming this should keep me entertained for at least half a year :)

.... how did I miss this?

I think for me it all very much depends on how well the new version of the game supports the old mods. I really have no interest in playing the game vanilla.

Wow I was just playing BG1 after a year! I'll keep tabs on this thread. Does the post above tricky's mean that we can purchase this soon? What is it? I've already gotten bummed out by purchasing Dungeon Lords MMXII (it was still many hours fun). I hope the next one will be great!

the windows version has been preorderable since august. it'll launch on 28th november, but most of it can be downloaded already, so the servers don't get clogged on wednesday.
i doubt there'll be another delay, as the game's been approved by wotc already. as far as i'm avare the ipad and osx versions are pending apple's approval, so they might be a few days late, the android version is still being worked on, so it comes sometime in december, and the linux version is still being negotiated.

also, there's a trailer now:

I guess it show how dumb I am I only just realised that it really is just Baldur's Gate + ToTC. It never occurred to me that they'd bring out the game in chunks. I guess I'll wait until they bring out the finished game before buying it.

It does strike me as being rather daft to add content, therefore increasing the amount of XP available, but still insist on keeping the already far too low XP cap.

well the preload's there to ease the clog that's going to happen on wednesday.
beamdog doesn't have steam-like servers and/or bandwidth.
