Seriousley- he was great in Memento, but his annoyingness in Time Machine and LA Confidential- evens the score.
In my mind he will always be the very annoying hero of LA confedential.(Probably because thats the first place I saw him)

Well to follow Georgy's lead with the trailer of Scorpion King-

Bad points- The Rock is in it, the story, setting, and fact that it's a spinoff
Good Points- None evident

To do the same thing with Episode 2:

Good points- Story, Ian McDiarmid is in it a lot more and as an evil guy, Christopher Lee, Duel light Sabre's, Music (of course :D ) and a Boba-fet kind of character.

Bad points- Anakin, Amidala, and Ewan McGregor trying to fill Alec Guiness' shoes, turning Samuel L. Jackson into another action hero, Yoda as CGI, the gungans are in it.

Yes I was dissapointed by Samuel L.Jackson being turned into an action hero too. Too many heroes for my liking. :p

Another bad point, Lucas obsession with CGI. . I want to see some robots for a change. Like the old Yoda.

The Shining-

It's realy amazing to me that in 2 weeks I've gone from someone whose seen 1 Kubrick moive, to 4 now!
Anyway- great movie- ranks right up there with Psyco and silence of the lambs as the best psycological horror movies I've ever seen- although Silence of the lambs will always be my favorite.
Nicholson was amazing in his first serious bad guy role.
It's hard for me to imagine, but then, this was a surprise that Nocholson plays such a creepy bad guy, since this was his first movie since One flew over a cukoo's nest- where he played a likable good guy. Now I recognise Nicholson as someone whose great at weird/eccentric/bad/evil characters- like the Joker, Colonel Gessop, or his charactors in As good as it gets or Witches of Eastwick or even Terms of Enderment.
Is the book better than the movie? its hard to imagine, since a lot of the movie is visual- the blood coming from the doors, the emptiness of the hotel or the 'Here's Johny'- one liners usualy don't have the same affect in writing as they do on screen.
The music is the kind that is amazing on screen, but you wouldn't want to listen to it without the movie.
In short- great movie.

Since I don't think I'll see another Kubrick for a while- (neither Lolita or Eyes wide shut seem like something I'd want to see)
Here is my personal rating of his movies: (Its going down)

1. Dr. Strangelove- 95/100
2. The Shining- 92/100
3. Full metal jacket- 90/100
4. 2001: A space odyssy- 50/100 Don't kill me, I just didn't get it- Once I see it again I'm sure my rating of it will increase significantly.

We have a Kubrick fan! :D

I like his movies. The Shining is awesome. A genuine "horror" film without the monsters and fangs etc.

Well, this should get at least Georgi and Sleepy back

I am in the middle of seeing The man who wasn't there on DVD!
Mainly because of your glowing reviews!

So, I'm at the part where Billy Bob just visited Frances in jail for the first time. So far I'll reserve my jugdement till the end. Though I think I will agree with you're reviews. ;)

Well, I've just finished seeing the behind the scenes of the movie, and all in all its a great movie.
Billy Bob was great playing the unexciting, unexcited, anti hero, who never shows any expression.
Tony Shalhoub was great as the very charismatic lawyer- an opposite of his usual roles.
James Gandolfini realy seemed out of place in the black ad white, suburban town- obviously since I'm used to the tough Mobster. His accent was very waspish, as opposed to the Italian one he has on the Sopranos.

I think the movie had a great script, definatly and most obviously the cinematography was amazing- it was much better and more deserving than LoTR.
The best Coen movie to date.

Your talking about the remake *sigh*.
Well of course, I was being topical, it opens here tomorrow ;) At least the ad said from the makers of Robin Hodd and not Waterworld, eh? :D Still, from what I've heard this is a whole lot better...

Haven't seen Time Machine, but LA Confidential - it's the character that was supposed to be an annoying, arrogant bastard, and I think he played it perfectly! I think Guy Pearce is a great actor - not bad for a guy who used to be in Neighbours :D

Scorpion King - I hadn't realised it was actually from the makers of The Mummy Returns - I guess if they're ripping themselves off it's not so bad... ;)

I just find it hard to visualise Samuel L Jackson as a Jedi... "Use the ****ing force, mother****er!!" :D

The Shining is a brilliant horror film... I think I've read the book, some time ago... The thing is, Stephen King's books have a tendency to be difficult to translate to the screen well (at least, one assumes that's the reason most adaptations leave something to be desired  ), Kubrick did a great job. I think "Here's Johnny" was put into the movie but not in the book... I could be wrong though ;)

Glad you enjoyed TMWWT, @Morlock :)

Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace: I am currently listening tp the commentery, which is pretty dull except for Lucas and McCullam. I rented the DVD just because on the special features DVD they have A pretty good behind the scenes thing, including John Williams talking to Lucas and conducting.
One cute thing I never noticed before was that in the senate their was a delegation of E.T's, something which I, as a Spielberg fan, find very amusing.

Hannibal: Pretty good as sequels go- but nothing compared to the original. This relyd on gruesome horror, insted of psycological horror, which is what made the first one so great.
Hopkins gave a great performance (as usual)- although him being free, not in a jail/facility takes away a lot of his appeal.
Moore was terrible- not at all convincing (at least compared to foster). I wish Scott Glenn would have come back.
Scott (Ridley, the director) made the best of a mediocere situation- making the movie cute with at least some appeal to the fans of the original, but to people who were not fans, I don't know what they'd see in it.

The Addams Family Values: A cute movie, with some funny dialogue, although it was much funnier the first time.
Mortisha: "We went throuh all the usual names- Luifer, Benito, Mao...."

Debbie: "He must be a lady killer"
Gomez: "Acuited!"

Gomez: "He has my fathers eyes"
Mortisha: "Gomez, take those out of his mouth!"

Spy Game: A pretty good movie with some very good scenes. Redford is too old- he looks and sounds very rustic. I've always found Pitt's way of speaking a bit annoying. The story was not done well- there are basicly five different settings in the movie, but they are not done preportionatly- so it seems like the first 2 or 3 settings are just their as an intro to the 'main' setting- Lebanon. The only parts I especialy liked were the ones with Pitt's training, and the last scene with operation "Dinner Out".
An OK movie- worth a night out, but not much more than that.

Well, I ain't giving up!

Rocky Horror picture show: A very weird movie. In my opionion also very bad. I can't believe Tim Curry would do this! (Well, he did do Scary Movie 2    )
It didn't have good music- Both main actors were annoying, Tim Curry was a very weird Transvestite from Transilvania... Never mind, just don't see it!
3/10

History of the World Part 1: I finaly saw it! It was so funny! Definatly same level other Mell Brooks movies. (Well, maybe not Robin Hood ;) )
I was shocked when I saw in the opening credits: Orson Wells- Narrator. What the hell is Citizen Kane doing with Mel Brooks? The contrast between his voice and the slapstick in the movie was so great:
Narrator: "Death was greeted with a certain degree of awe"
Cave men: "Awwwwww....." :D
I loved Devinci in the last supper: "OK, everybody who wants to be in the picture go to the other side of the table!"

"You men- go northward!"
"You men- go southward!"
"I'm just gonna walk around in a circle!"

"Don't miss History of the worls part two- you'll see Hitler Ice skating..."

and IMO the best line-
Brooks as Moses, holding 3 tablets: " The lord Jehova has granted on to you these 15.."
(Drops and brakes one of the tabletes) "Oy... No, 10 commandments!" ROFLMAO!!! :D :D :D
9/10

Conspiracy: A made for TV movie which one a couple of Emmy's this year. It is a discription of the Wansee meeting, in which a number of top echelon Nazis agreed on the 'Final Solution' to the Jewish problem.
It was very good. Done well, very good script, great actors- definatly worth watching.
Kenneth Branaugh won the Emmy for best actor in a TV movie for playing Reinhard Heydrich- the person put in charge of the 'Jewish problem'.
Stanly Tucci won a Golden Globe for best supporitng actor, playing Adolph Eichman. There were several other farmiliar actors there.
I'd recommend it.
8/10

Air Force One: A movie which I have seen duzens of times, and never get sick of. I really think it is underapritiated.
Although it stars Harrison Ford, The best actor in the movie, IMO,was definetly Gary Oldman as the Russian bad guy. His accent was great.
Jerry Goldsmith's score was really great- especialy 'Radeck's Death'.
8.5/10

You'd better not let the ladies hear you say that...is it Georgi with the Rocky Horror quote in her sig? I can't remember...but anyway, even if you did think the movie was bad, you can't think it's serious can you? You'd have to pretty cold hearted not to like Rocky Horror IMHO, but who knows :) :o ...

and it's wierd for me, because I only knew Curry from the RHPS (I saw it when I was very young), so whenever he's in something seriouse I go 'I can't believe he'd do this!'...anyway, he's in loads of ****...he's got no shame at all, just incase you were interested...

K-PAX: Throughly enjoyed it.

The Last Castle: Enjoyed it. Its cool with all the weapons they make to take over the prison.

Romeo Must Die: Kind of dissapointing from every angle, Jet Li a very accomplished martial artist who has been doing this kind of tosh for years follows a pretty standard movie plot. It was supposed to be his breakthrough into the US market and if you want standard plot then it is perfect. Even the few fight scenes they partake in are quite dissapointing. It was alright for me since i needed something to send me to sleep ;)

Score 4/10

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a horrible movie. You can quote me on that and please save your flames for PMs. Nearly everything about Rocky Horror is bad; the script, the "plot", the "acting", the "dialogue" and the general production, although many of the musical numbers are actually pretty good.

What you miss when you watch Rocky Horror at home on DVD or video is the experience of seeing it in a theatre full of people, who know every line by heart and give you the full interactive experience. The experience of The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one that absolutely should not be missed. Dress up, take lots of props (rice, toast, water guns, etc.), get hammered/stoned with your buddies and the movie is a blast.

History of the World: Part 1 is probably my fourth favourite Mel Brooks movie; Blazing Saddles is hands down the best, Young Frankenstein is second and Spaceballs is third. If you haven't seen those, watch them next.

The Scorpion King (: D): The movie runs in at about 1:30 minutes for this fact alone i am grateful, there is actually no way they could have made the film any longer, they stretched it as far as the plot would go. I shall give it to you in a nice chunck so you don't have to watch it ;)

Guy who is skilled in sword is trying to take over the entire continent, he can't be killed by anyone due to his skill and reactions. He has a socerous which helps him out with battle by predetermining what is going to happen through visions.

The Rock is hired to kill her by a group of the last remaning leaders from this continent. They all get a little riled and argue a bit a few threats are thrown around.

Rock goes off, has the chance to kill socerous but she warns him about the trap so he doesn't (plus she is half naked and one figures he has got the horn ;) ). His brother gets killed in front of him he then swears revenge..... i fall asleep ZzzZzzZzzZzz then something else happens. They use every excuse to get the female star as naked as possible. The rest goes on as anyone would expect from a movie that features the dialogue "So you would stand alone against his entire army"
"Yes" :o

The good points: The fight scenes are convincing and quite entertaining, even though the film was classed a twelve ;) The Rock is actually quite decent as an actor, he is more convincing when he isn't saying anything, but he pulls it off with some kind of charisma. See earlier comments about nakedness :D The cast generally does okay and the CG is not completely lacklustre.

In the end this review is not particularly well structured (much like the movie) and if you glean anything from it then you are far too intelectual to appreciate The Scorpion King for anything but a good Sleeping Pill.

Score 5/10
I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.

Here in Belgium, they aired the Phantom Menace last Sunday and they intend to air the rest each Sunday as well. Personally, I liked Return of the Jedi best. I missed a strong independent and relatively selfish character like Han Solo in Episode I. I'll propably go see Episode II: attack of the Clones, when it comes to European cinema's in May as well.

That is the whole point to Rocky Horror, It is supposed to be bad. It is a spoof of bad 1950's and 60's horror/sci fi movies. It is a great movie, but I do agree that the only place to see it is in a movie theatre with a load of crazy people and lots of props.

Last movie I saw was Ocean's Eleven. Best heist movie to come out of hollywood in years. There where plot holes you could drive a truck through, but the point of a heist movie is style and dialog. I quite liked the black mockney charactor.

"At last I can work with some proper villains"

Why though did they get a well known US actor - namely Don Cheadle - to act as a ****ney, why not get a ****ney?

I really liked Oceans Eleven as well, it was all quite satisfying in a cheesy old hollywood way, a lot better than the original as well :)
