Yes, it's real - a very nice katana from Kuroisan, a tactics mod encounter
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.

I wasn't going to say this, since this message is against the actual meaning of the message, if you understand what I mean.

But may I please ask you to NOT spam this thread up with questions, such as “what kind of weapon something is, where you can find it, what a better weapon is, how to make a certain class,” etc.
I'm sure you could all find the information if you did a topic search. If you don't mind, I would like to keep this thread on-topic. Which means feedback is welcome, whet ether it is positive or negative. So please, try to keep the thread clean (control yourself Luis!).
Thank you. ;)

Edit: Don't get me wrong, I do not want to offend anyone. I'm actually very happy that people are interested in this journey and my writings. Asking questions if fine too, but let's not use 6 posts for a question about a weapon please. Questions are fine, feedback also, but I'm just trying to keep the story going ;)

Flayers!

I'm leaving tomorrow and I've only played a little further in the game, which means I haven’t written much. However, I won't leave you people unsatisfied for the next two weeks, so here's the first part of my expedition through the mindflayer dungeon

Stumbling in the Mindflayer dungeon, we were immediately beset by the inhabitants of the cave, Mindflayers. Their psionics overwhelmed us all, and we fell in a deep sleep. Ones again it was a horrible night and my dreams are not getting better either. When I woke up my head pounded like crazy. What happened? After a while some Ogre came to us and told us of the situation. If we wanted to keep alive, we had to fight for it!

Our first fight was against a few Umberhulks. Too bad for them the time that we feared these beasts has long been over. Confusion spells didn’t help the beasts much and they fell by the strikes of our swords and hits of our arrows. After the victory, we were put in our prison again, where we met up with a couple of Ghityanki. Apparently they were the ones who ambushed us at sea. I did not like them in the least, but their leader proposed that we would join forces. Alone neither of us would have a chance of escaping, but together we might pull it off. I was against it, but Jaheira and Tashia thought it was a good, if not, our only way of escaping. So putting our differences aside we joined up. Dalis seemed to like the idea and the doom we could bring on the flayers together and Minsc was just happy to smack some butt, while Immie simply wanted to escape as fast as possible. So I agreed with the Ghityanki his proposition, although my companions didn’t give me much of a chance.

When were put into the fighting pit again, the Ghityanki held off the Mindflayers’ power, while we killed some Kuo-Toa’s and fled the fighting pit. Maybe this wasn’t such a bad deal after all..
In the first room we encountered the Ogre. He was no real thread to us, but the guy had an incredible amount of stamina; must be because he fought countless of battles in that pit himself. It was truly remarkable how long he lasted, despite the continuing blows of swords…
Moving on we encountered a room with a few Mindflayers. These guys are quite annoying, but the three of them didn’t last long. Alone or in small numbers they can be defeated, but when they are in large numbers and accompanied by Umberhulks, battles get more difficult. Their invisibility can be a pain in the ass and the intelligence drain can be nasty, but as long as we can hit fast and with great strength, we will win. Celestial Fury is a great weapon against these flayers, because ones they are stunned, they are just meat for our swords.

In the room behind that, a group of people laid still. They were either unconscious, dead or drugged. No one of the party could exactly tell what was wrong with them, not even Jaheira. Not being able to free the group, we walked to a different room. Only one mindflayer occupied this one. We killed it easy and gathered some strange liquid. Minsc came with the crazy idea to use it on the unconscious men. Having no other options than that really, we simply decided to give it a try. Surprisingly enough it worked! We even got a few mindflayer control circlets and the gratitude of the people.

After a minute or so walking through the really weird looking dungeon, we came in a large room with two doors. Jaheira and I soon discovered that only a being of godly strength or a powerful mind could open the door. Minsc tried breaking the door with brute strength but failed. He even pounded his bold head on the door, but Immie quickly pulled him away from the door. We don’t need a dumber Minsc then we already have. However, there was still the problem of the door. None of us was smart enough either and I wasn’t planning on turning into the Slayer and lose myself to the power, the emotions and the anger. This meant we somehow had to get a flayer to open the door. These nasty creatures feed on other people’s brain, so I figured they would have at least some measure of intelligence. The control circlet would probably work fine on the flayers, but I didn’t want to spend such a valuable circlet, so I let Tashia cast Simulacrum. The simulacrum, in turn, charmed a flayer and let it open the doors. Yeah baby, it worked!

Immediately the Ghityanki appeared out of nowhere and also fled the place! The treacherous bunch knew from the beginning that only they could escape! Although they told us how to flee this place when they left, they also gave us a warning. A warning for crying out loud! If we would escape, the Ghityanki forces would hunt the wielder of the Silver Sword. The arrogance and stupidity! Who do they think they are talking to? Some lowlife adventurer? I just saved their skins and this is how they repay me?!? The indignity!
I told them that the next time we would meet; things would not go as peaceful!
Now if we could only escape this horrid place…

And so the Journey continues

I’m getting tired of walking. The party hasn’t slept ever since we entered this mindflayer invested place and fatigue is getting the better of us. I wish we could sleep, even it was for only an hour, but unfortunately we can’t. Sleeping is too dangerous here –danger is literally around every corner- and the Mindflayers are just too powerful. All I can do is pray that this place is not too large…

We stand in front of some large door. If it wasn’t for the aura of this place and the life threatening situations, I might’ve appreciated the architecture. The door itself is truly beautiful+ with runes, signs and carving covering it on its total length. I tell my companions to take a few steps back and hide myself in shadows. Taking a peek through the door I catch the glimpse of a few Umberhulks and Mindflayers. This is what I feared; large groups of enemies. Especially when Mindflayers are the core of the group. Not willing to risk too much, I ask my comrades what sort of summons they still got. Their reply gives me some of my hope back; Tashia alone can summon more then three groups of allies.

So that is what happens; Tashia summons three Mordenkainen’s Swords and two Skeleton Warriors. The party does the usual buffing and Dalis casts haste on the summons. When they move in, the party takes a few steps back, waiting for the carnage to happen. And it happened, though not where we thought it would. Suddenly the Mindflayers and an Umberhulk teleport in front of us! I am too busy focussing my attention on the door that I do not notice the enemies near me. I hear a scream from Tashia and turn around. When I look towards Tashia, I see a great claw coming right at my face! I jump under the Umberhulks striking claw and roll myself a few metres away from the beast. There I quickly jump on my feet, grab my bow from my back, take an arrow from my quiver and shoot it at the Umberhulk. The arrow hits the beasts right between the eyes and it falls to the ground. I turn around to check on my comrades and see Dalis and Jaheira destroying a Mindflayer with their swords. Even though they don’t know it –or if they do, probably won’t admit it-, they make a great team.
At my left I see Immie and Tashia taking care of another flayer, while Minsc is keeping the third occupied. Noticing the smile on Immies face, I realise she’s having fun killing the beast. Is the taint getting control over her now?? Hmpff, I have no time for such thoughts now. Minsc is having problems with the third flayer and looks like he needs some help. I put a second another arrow on my bow and shoot it at the flayer. It gets hit in his arm and hisses with pain! Minsc notices that the flayer is distracted and moves in for the swing. With only one strike he decides the battle in his favour. What a great strength my fellow Ranger has. I would hate to be on the receiving end of his sword…

Checking in the room where Tashia send our summons, Dalis notices that our small army is still complete. Taking advantage of the situation, Tashia order the summons to enter a strange looking room to our right. Immediately a battle breaks out again, but this time the flayers do not teleport themselves in front of us. So I sneak to the battlefield and observe what happens. Within seconds one of the Skeleton Warriors is destroyed and a minute later a Mordenkainen’s Sword is unsummoned. Things are looking grave for our small army. I decide to help and start shooting arrows. One of the flayers falls quite fast and the summons take care of another. When Dalis and Tashia also move in, the battle is soon decided. The loot, a couple of brine potions, is all ours.
Surprisingly enough, this tactic worked on the next flayer army, too. However, this army was larger, which meant that we all barged in and attacked our enemy. One skelly quickly fell and Immie was confused in a few moments. She was running around like a headless chicken and was hunted by an Umberhulk and a flayer. Minsc tried desperately to help her and took the Umberhulk out with a few swings. Meanwhile, I was shooting the chasing flayer. Hitting it first in the legs, it fell to the ground. Unable to move, I walked to the flayer, grabbed my dagger and freed the mindflayer of its pain. Tashia and Jaheira were working another mindflayer, while Dalis already moved to make his second kill. Things looked bad for the flayers and when Immie’s confusion wore off, the battle was quickly over.

Moving to a room to the south of us, we killed a few creatures that were locked up and moved north again. Here we encountered a door, which could, one again, only be open by a flayer. So Tashia repeated her little trick; charmed a mindflayer and let it open the door. Jaheira suddenly felt a strange pain in her head and urged me to move on with caution.
She’s been my trusted companion and tutor for a long time now, and I’ve learned to heed her words. I order everyone to protect themselves to the max and order Tashia to call the most powerful summons she can. I follow my usual tactic and send the first wave of summons in. Hasted and well. I order the party to stay a few steps back, and tell everyone to stand at the ready. Especially Jaheira and Tashia, who should summon more allies when needed. When I move into the room, my brains almost collapse and a sense of fear covers my entire body. A huge brain occupies the room, combined with a Magical Golem, a few Giant Golems and some elite Mindlfayers! I start shooting a few arrows at the Magical Golem and it falls quickly. I then move on to one of the Giant Golems, but when I got it at near dead, my entire summons army is gone; killed, taken care of in a matter of seconds! Noticing that all my enemies are now focussing their attention on me, I flee the room. Screaming to my party to crash in, I see Jaheira smiling a bit. She and Tashia already have their next summon army ready, Minsc is going in a battlerage, Dalis is buffing himself up some more and Immie is already chanting a spell.
Our next summon army is then send in, closely followed by Minsc and an Abi-Dalzim’s Horrid Wilting from both Immie and Tashia. When Minsc and co move themselves through the door, Dalis, Jaheira and I closely follow, while Immie and Tashia stay in the door opening where they are preparing their next spell. The Golems fall within moment, but the elite flayers and the Master Brain are proving to be a bit hard. I focus all my attention on the Master Brain, while the rest of the party takes care of the elite flayers. Tashia then starts casting spells which disable to protections of the elites. Immie is casting another Abi-Dalzim’s Horrid Wilting.
Shooting a rain of enchanted arrows at the Master Brain, I am brining the strange creature to near death, but suddenly hear a scream next to me! I look around and see Jaheira being caught by a flayer! I quickly take an arrow from my quiver and shoot it at the flayer. It is going right at the beast his head, but the flayer turns around. The arrow flies straight past the flayer and hits the wall. I missed, for crying out loud, I barely miss a target! I try to take another arrow, but Dalis is blocking my way. He jums towards the flayer and strikes his Celestial Fury in the flayers stomach. The flayer lets go of Jaheira, but it is already too late! She is dead, though not beyond resurrection.
Screaming with rage, Dalis and Minsc take care of the flayer who held Jaheira only moment ago! Meanwhile the summons and my two mages are taking care of the last elite flayer, while I destroy the Master Brain.
When I kill the Master Brain, the pain that came from the inside of my head vanishes too. Looking around I see the bodies of my enemies, the smashed legs of Kitthix the spider and the bones of the Skeleton Warriors. Next to the pile of bones lies the body of Jaheira. I grab the Rod of Resurrection and bring her back to life. We grab the loot and move back through the door where we came through a couple of hours ago. With the dead of the Master Brain, the doors all went open and we are finally able to escape.

The adrenaline rush that just went through my body slowly disappears and I notice how beaten and tired I am. Dragging myself to the exit, Dalis almost falls down and needs Minsc to pick him up. Thank the gods that we escaped this place. It is time for a rest…

Drow Meetings

A good night’s sleep; how incredible uplifting and energy-giving it can be. We are at full strength now, everyone has there spells and abilities memorised again and I feel as if I can take on anything that comes ahead. Minsc feels the same way, since we’ve beaten Mindflayers, Beholders and Drow parties since we are in the Underdark and got Immie back. Jaheira, on the other hand, doesn’t feel so secure. The caves are blocking most things that strike her as “nature” and she has a sad look on her face every now and then. It’s not that I like it here either -there’s no sunlight and we’ve been attacked at almost every corner-, but at least I start to feel more secure here.

Walking up front, together with Tashia, we see a small bridge leading over a deep ravine. Moving across it, a Drow party teleports in front of us. Nothing sudden about it though, since one of the creatures, who we freed from imprisonment, already warned us about a possible ambush at this bridge. Me and Tashia quickly take out the drow in front of us, while Dalis and Minsc take care of the ones behind. Immie and Jaheira walked a few metres behind us and when they come rushing in, the battle is already over. Too bad for them.
Moving on, there where two ways to go, although only one would lead to Adalon. Always picking the left –I have no idea why I do that- we came upon a large doorway with darkness like I’ve never seen. Neither my half-elven eyes, nor Tashia’s elven eyes could pierce the darkness. Intrigued nonetheless I moved on, until Minsc yelled that my butt was shining. He gave me a huge kick and said that there was fire in my pants. I jumped in the air and gave Minsc such a yell-cannonade that Immie needed to silence me with a spell. Emptying my pockets I discovered that the little gem, which the Svirfneblin leader gave us, shined brightly; driving the darkness around us away. Despite the obvious comedy value of this all, especially Dalis liked it –this would be great for the story he was writing-, I was now in a very cranky mood. A giggling Tashia behind me didn’t improve things either.

Only a beam of light shows the floor in front of us… man, that gem gives a lot of light! Good thing though, we’ve been walking down this stairs for quite some time now, and I would hate it if I tumbled the entire way down. As we walk further, the sound of spell casting reaches our ear and I tell everyone to prepare their weapons. What we see next is unlike anything we’ve seen before! A Silver Dragon stands in the middle of a majestic hall! The hall is almost higher than the caves of the Underdark, and certainly lighter. After a short, but certainly emotional dialog, the Dragon named Adalon told us of the situation and proposed an exchange of services.

So here we stand now, in front of Ust’Natha, disguised as Drow because of a spell from Adalon. Immie is shivering all over her body, and I sincerely doubt if this plan will work. I know nothing about the way’s of the drow. I should’ve taken Viconia with me first time I met her. A well, it’s too late for such thoughts right now.
Before we can enter there’s a short investigation. It seems like the entire drow city is busy. We enter the place and my mouth falls open with amazement. Beautiful, but dangerous looking buildings containing a variety of species; Drow, Genies, Fish, Svirfneblin, Ghityanki and even Elves. Merchants all over the place, from whom we buy a few spells and items. After our small shopping-spree, we walk to the city in search of a drow male, named Solaufein. He, in turn, would order us to do a certain task for him. After a talk with Sola –damn, those drow are arrogant- we were set on a job; to retrieve Phaere. She’s apparently a drow who ranks high here in Ust’Natha.

Well, it seems Phaere was kidnapped by flayers. Yes, flayers! Ones again we got in conflict with the tentacle creatures. What is this, do certain races hate me or something? I’ve battled Ghityanki, Trolls, Umberhulks, Mindflayers and even Wyverns multiple times! They never learn… Anyway, before we could meet up with Solaufein in the Underdark, we battled with a small group of other adventurers who obviously thought we were drow. Can’t blame them really, we look like drow, you know. They were quite strong actually, and Immie was even almost killed because of a thief. We only took hits in the first seconds, because we were quite surprised to be attacked like this. However, a dispel spell from Tashia and an Abi-Dalzim’s Horrid Wilting from Immie made short work of our attackers.
Walking on a couple of minutes, we met up with Sola in front of the flayer and beholder caves. A smile covered my face. “Heh, even if they beat us, they don’t have a home or leader here anymore.” Minsc seemed to like my remark and let out a loud battlecry in honour of our fought battle. This apparently angered Solaufein, because he wanted the utmost silence. Hmpf, this drow is starting to annoy me more with every minute. Before I could say anything however, Solaufein urged us to prepare ourselves; the flayers were coming, with Phaere.

I decided to place a few traps; it’s not like I had anything to do while the rest prepared anyway. Minsc called in Kitthix, pure for the fun. Boo and our little pet Spider seem to get along quite well. Tashia, Jaheira, Dalis and Immie were preparing a few of there spells in the meantime. Both low level as high level spells, since we’ve got enough of them anyway. Especially Tashia can cast quite a lot of Prot. from Magic Energy spells. Dalis got almost only defensive spells, pure for battling and Immie, well; my sis got the most of our damaging spells.

When the flayers appear, Dalis is immediately stunned. For the first time since we’ve fought these flayers actually. I focus my attention on the Umberhulks and, because of a potion of Speed and my well-placed traps, they fall quickly. Jaheira and Minsc killed a flayer in the meantime and Tashia and Immie try to fend of the flayer who’s attacking Dalis. He’s getting seriously intelligence drained and almost dies. Luckily Jaheira is there in time and throws herself between Dalis and the flayer. She dishes out a couple of hits and the flayer starts to stagger. I take my chance, put an arrow on my bow and hit the flayer in his neck. Dead. Then only one flayer is still alive, although just barely. Minsc slashes wildly around with the Flail of Ages and kills the flayer with a, seemingly, well-placed hit.
Looking around, I notice that Solaufein is totally uninjured, just like Phaere. While we were fighting, they were apparently buffing themselves. Bah! These drow are not only arrogant, they are also slow as hell! Phaere starts an, for Sola, unpleasant conversation. She wants to head back to the city on her own and asks us to meet her there, too. We shouldn’t linger too much she tells us. It seems she has taking an interest in me…

So here we walk again, back to the city of Ust’Natha with our party, but without Sola. He didn’t like it that Phaere went back by her lonesome and followed her. I wonder what await us next? Maybe we can somehow use Phaere, since she is a drow of distinction…

The line between black and white

Irenicus must’ve played a dangerous game by asking the drow for their help. These guys change their intentions with almost every second. They are like a candle in a storm; unpredictable as hell. But to say that the changing intentions way of life only served the drow? Not really…

Our travels through the Underdark brought us many a quest and adventure. We were instructed by our new commander Phaere to kill a Beholder, dispense a group of Svirfneblin, which we, of course, did not do. We helped an imprisoned mage by killing a coupke of elementals, out-bluffed a strange fish in a tank and were even commanded by Phaere to kill Solaufein.
When we first met Solaufein it was no secret that he irritated me, to so the least. However, over time I’ve learnt to respect the drow commander. Walking through Ust’Natha gave me insight into drow culture and it struck me that women control the city. They rank higher than men and opposing them is as sure as death. Feminism kind of went out of control here...
While we were doing jobs for Phaere, it often came to a conflict between the two drow -who seem to have a bloody history which goes way back- and Solaufein obviously wasn’t scared to express his opinion on certain matters. Unfortunately for him, Phaere got so annoyed by his appearance, that she ordered us to kill him. While she said this, Immie’s mouth fell open by amazement. Over the past few days it was clear that she started to like the commander. Even Jaheira formed some sort of respect for Sola and suggested another of dealing with him. And that's exactly what we did.
We went to his house and explained him what we were doing there and what we were supposed to do. Surprisingly enough, he accepted his fate with courage -either that, or he had enough of his life- and asked what I was planning to do with him. Discussing with my friends what to do, everyone came to conclusion that killing Sola was something they did not look forward to. So we let him life. Gladly accepting this deal Sola fled the city and thanked us with all his heart. Overall, he wasn’t such a bad guy; he even worshiped a different god than Loth, which could’ve got him killed in drow society, too.

After the so-called “death” of Solaufein, Phaere was so impressed that she introduced me to the city’s matron mother. This drow was so full of herself, it was incredible. I thought that Solaufein as arrogant when I first met him, but that was obviously a cover. This drow is serious and literally thinks she stands above all, except her god. She’s a bit like Tiax, only than in a scarier kind of way.
I got an order from the city’s matron mother herself. I needed to get some blood from one of the species which could be found in the Underdark. Since I already have these things, the matron mother was quite surprised. She honoured my skills and prepared some sort of Ritual. Apparently she wants to summon a Demon to aid her in the battle against the surface Elves. Why Irenicus would want a war between the two elven species is beyond me though…
Preparing the ritual, the matron mother sealed the city.
Phaere, in turn, asked me to come to her room. She wanted me to betray the matron for her own purposes. The matron mother was going to summon a Demon with the blood I gathered and then offer it the Silver Dragons eggs, so the Demon would help in the destruction of the Elves. Quite the plan, that’s for sure.
When I wanted to swap the eggs, Sola came to me with a third pair of eggs, which would even elude Phaere. It seems that it was a wise decision to let him life after all...

We swapped the eggs, but on our way back we were ones again drawn into an adventure. Jarlaxle, some famous Drow thief, lured us into a trap and to get out we needed to kill a Lich. Truth be told; that wasn’t too hard. But in our, well, my greed, I wanted to loot a place as reward and revenge. The House of Jae'llat to be precise. Expecting some resistance, everyone prepared a few spells before entering. When we entered the house we certainly got resistance, although it isn’t exactly what you could call “some”. When we opened the door and walked up the stairs, we were immediately attacked by a lot of drow. Unlike any other drow we’ve fought so far –and the party fought quite a few drow in the Underdark and in some strange fighting pit- these guys were really good. Everyone was taking hits and our spells did not help much either. Nasty magic resistance…
Truth be told, everything went really bad until I figured out a tactic to beat our attackers. I threw everyone a Potion of Invisibility and told them to retreat from the battle one by one, so they could buff themselves a bit or call in the aid of our summons. Dalis was our life-safer in the tactic, because he was the only one who had protection from magic weapons memorised. When Jaheira or Minsc retreated, the drow who were attacking them started hacking away at Dalis. Luckily to no avail. Instead of shooting arrows like I normally do, I went melee. Thanks to a few successful backstabs from me, the battle quickly became equal and because everyone was buffed after a few minutes, the battle was soon decided in our favour.
Jaheira healed everyone and I decided to scout ahead. Walking on, I noticed that the hardest part of this battle was still to come…

Spam removed. Guys, this is not a thread to detail what you will do in your own games, or to offer a couple of words of encouragement for same. Read the forum rules about spamming. Those who are already familiar and have been warned before risk having their accounts closed.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

A Hero’s Departure

Tashia lets out a sigh of relief. This was a hard battle. Even though we are experienced adventurers with good equipment, the drow certainly gave us a run for our money.
When I came back to the party, I told Immie, Dalis and Tashia to prepare their spells, since the battle was not over. Yet. After Jaheira finishes her healing, the mages start buffing with spells such as Stoneskin., MirrorImage, True Sight, Protection from Magic, etc. As a finishing touch, Jaheira even throws in a few priest spells.
While the rest prepared, I walked to the remaining enemies, hiding myself in shadows. Mumbling something about the scars which I got from my recent fight, I noticed that a mage began casting True Sight. I did a few steps back until I was out of the mages sight, and released a rain of arrows on one of the guards. Hitting him first in the leg, later in his sword arm, and lastly in his chest, the guard was dead even before he reached me. I then moved on to the mage/priest. Apparently she went by the name of Ishtar. The drow started a small conversation with me, although it was pretty one-sided, since she did all the talking. As I expected, the conversation quickly developed in her attacking me. Bah, these things always end it battle…

I tried to shoot a few arrows at her. However, in the beginning I hit her to no avail and she made steadily progress towards me. Some of her guards even came with her and attacked me!
I ran as fast as mortally, or, since I’m a half-god, godly possible back to my party. There Tashia and Immie were already preparing some dispelling spells, such as Breach and Khelben’s Warding Whip. Dalis activated his Offensive Spin, Jaheira threw an Iron Skin around her and Minsc stepped in front of Immie and Tashia. When Ishtar and her guards reached us to a few metres, Dalis and Jaheira stepped up front and charged the drow. I, in turn, focussed my attention on the guards and tried pinning them to the ground with my arrows. Tashia and Immie were throwing their dispelling spells at Ishtar and began casting new ones. Meanwhile, Minsc couldn’t control his urge to mingle himself in the fight and charged one of the drow guards. Thanks to a few hits from me and Minsc, two guards were quickly down.
Jaheira and Dalis were doing a pretty good job on Ishtar, too. Tashia had thrown another breach in, and the drow mage was quickly at near dead. We were winning and it went actually very well. We totally controlled the fight.

What happened next, however, totally changed the balance of the fight. Ishtar called upon her god, Loth, and changed into some sort of Slayer! But that was not the only surprise, ohh no! When she changed into that horrible creature, she brought a few spiders with her. And it’s not like these were normal spiders! These things got a nasty amount of hitpoints and can actually level drain! What’s worse, Ishtar, who was now the slayer, went straight after me! I ran away with my boots of speed and stood a few metres away.

Observing my friends, I notice that Immie is casting an Abi-Dalzim’s Horrid Wilting, while Tashia is preparing Teleport Field after just throwing in a slow spell. However, one of the spiders attacks her and she loses her concentration. I put an arrow on my bow and shoot it at the spider, damaging one of its legs. Minsc sees that Tashia is in trouble and hastens himself to help her. Looking to my right, I see Dalis ferociously hitting Ishtar, while Jaheira is trying to kill another spider. I put another arrow on my bow and aim it on one of the remaining guards.
Suddenly I see a claw coming straight at my face! I am attacked by Ishtar and a spider. Apparently Dalis couldn’t stop Ishtar. She was too fast and had her mind totally set on me! In all the confusion, I release my arrow and hit the guard right in his neck. Dead. That, however, was not a very good move; I could’ve better shot it at the spider…

I try to grab my katana, but can’t reach for it because I have to dodge all the hits coming towards me. When Ishtar strikes her claw at me I manage to dive under it, but get hit by her other arm. I’m thrown back by the power of her hit and try to get up. Grabbing hold of a table, I pull myself up and try to find my balance. When my senses return, I grab my katana but get hit again. A spider attacks and level drains me! My sight was still to blurry to see the attack coming! Trying to recover, I’m beaten down by the slayer and almost go unconscious. With much effort I open my eyes and see Dalis standing before me.
The Blade jumped between us and is now swinging Celestial Fury and Dak'kon's Zerth Blade dangerously in front of his face. He’s attacking Ishtar with one blade and fending of her strikes with the other. He’s actually holding his ground pretty well, even though Ishtar is doing her best to reach me. Just behind Dalis, Immie is throwing a slow spell at the attacking spider, so it won’t be able to reach me fast enough.
Suddenly Dalis turns around and screams to me to withdraw myself from the battlefield. I try to get up, but fail in the attempt to do so. My body is too heavily bruised and injured. With all my strength, I manage to grab a Healing Potion and pour it down my throat. When the liquid mingles itself with my body, I feel some of my strength returning. I stumble a few metres away and see Jaheira moving towards me, screaming something about a healing spell. When she’s only a metre or so away from me, the spider –who she was fighting a few seconds ago- hits her and she falls down. She tries to move towards me, but is attacked for a second time. For her own good, she starts attacking the spider, slowly pushing it back.
I find my balance again and grab Sanchuudoku, which is now my main katana. My sight is still blurry however, and my body feels beaten, so I try to grab another Healing Potion. Reaching for it, I see Immie and Minsc finishing a guard and spider off.

When I try to drink the potion, I get hit by the slowed spider, and the bottle falls from my hands. How could I be so stupid to forget that thing?!? Luckily, the spider is still slowed and Sanchuudoku is helping me regenerate. I grab my dagger and attack the spider. It jumps towards me and I fend it of with my dagger in my left hand. When the spider gets down, I literally dive on it, and drive Sanchuudoku with my right hand through the scaled skin of the small beast. Twitching its legs because of the strike, it slowly dies. Pulling my katana out the spider’s body, I can barely get up, because of exhaustion. When I finally get on my feet, I move to my right, but get hit straight against the chest by Ishtar! She managed to outsmart Dalis and is now wrecking havoc on me! Breathing heavily because of the full hit on my chest, I try not to look at the numerous wounds on my body. When Ishtar is standing in front of me, I hear a scream coming from Tashia! In my eye corners, I see Immie desperately trying to cast a spell. Her face full of emotions, although only one really dominates; fear. Behind her, Minsc is letting out a battle cry and swings his sword in front of him, moving his enormous body towards the slayer.
In an attempt to reach Ishtar faster, Dalis is smashing the table and chairs away with such a determined expression like I’ve never seen before. What a good friend he has proven to be, this loyal Tiefling… When I look to my right, I see Jaheira still battling the spider. Hearing the yells and cries from my comrades, she turns her face towards me and the expression on it changes abruptly. She looks like she is screaming, but I don’t hear a noise. I don’t hear any noise…
I look in front of me and meet eyes with Tashia; the beautiful sorceress elf that I started to like a lot. The last image I see is a tear from Tashia falling on the ground and the claw of Ishtar striking at my chest. I smile and I fall and fall, deeper and deeper and deeper…

Improved Battles.

Truth be told, I think I underestimated this house' strenght and overestimated my own. I've played it again but just a bit more preperation and it can be done then.

Truth be told two, in the meantime, I've played further in the game, to see how I would do, but it just doesn't have the same feeling anymore. I know I'm a bit late with writing this, but it just took me a while, since I was kind of pissed.

I always took improved battles to mean the added battles in tactics. But I assume there is a mod that is improved battles and not on the weimer's site. Can you throw me a link.

Btw. you never did mention why you were doing a archer/swash/mage.

I didn't do an Archer-Swishie-Mage. I played an Archer-Thief.

However, I noticed that with my playing style -being in the middle of the battle, not running away and letting my other NPC's solve everything- it requires mage spells to survive. Especially the improved encounters.

That's why I opened that other thread. The Archer is a great kit, and that goes for the Thief class, too. But without some magic protection, my playing style simply doesn't make in in these Improved Battles

yes the archer/swarh/mage from the other thread was what I was curious about. I just figured the archer part would be wasted.

still a valiant effort all in all.
