The Deathless Journey
The Deathless Journey
Introduction
So, this will be my first try to beat BG SoA and ToB with:
Tactics*, Battles**, Ascension, Ease of Use, Apack, Refinements, Unfinished Business, Item Upgrade***, Taza Shop***, Oversight, Ashes of Embers, Banter packs, Flirt packs, Improved Oasis and Tashia installed.
This is going to happen without deaths, or reloads. Onwards!
*= I don’t have Smarter Mages/Liches installed, simply because I don’t think it is any fun. Of course, I could benefit from it too (since I got Immie, Tashia and Dalis), but I just don’t like it.
**= I don’t have Improved Trolls installed (last time it crashed in combination with Improved Torgal), Mencar Pebblecrusher and the Madcleric (too cheesy characters (undropable CF/FoA, whats with that?) I can plant a lot of traps near them, but I want a nice battle) and the Trademeet Crypt (since it crashed in combo with Tactics’improved Crypt).
***= From Item Upgrade I use every item, when needed. From Taza Shop only a few (boots of speed, protection negative elements for example), since some are just too overpowered.
These are my characters at the beginning of SoA:
Name: Sytze (Archer-Thief). Level 7/9 (bit extra exp from TotSC. I always do this)
Stats: Half-elf, Chaotic Good, 14/19/16/15/17/16 (again, BG I + TotSC)
Party:
Sytze (Archer-Thief) Level 7/9
Jaheira (Fighter-Druid) Level 7/9
Minsc (Ranger) Level 8
Imoen (Swashbuckler-Mage) Level 10/7 =>from refinements
Yoshimo will join the gang after a while
Tashia will be picked up when I am out of the dungeon
Haer'Dalis will be picked up when I am out of the dungeon
However, I first have to get out of the dungeon, and that means facing some duergar parties, shadow thieves and, of course, Improved Ilyich…

Interesting, @Sytze. In what order are you installing the mods and patches? In any case, please keep us updated on both your progress, and whether you encounter any programming anomalies.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Ohh My God
Well, I am out of the nasty dungeon. After facing countless of foes and getting scars in places I never thought I could, I am finally in the open.
However, I must say I died, ones. And no, not like most of you would suspect..
A simple duergar was the cause...
Let me explain. My party killed duergars before, fighters and mages alike. After letting the golem open the doors we ventured out to the nice improved tentacle beast. I hid myself in shadows together with Minsc and tried to backstab it. I succeeded fortunately and did like 50 damage. One hit of Minsc later and the fell beast was dead. So we ventured on, spoke with the dryads, got the portal key, went to get Yoshimo, killed the portals and went back.
On our way to face Illyich and co, we encountered another group of Duergar. Two mages and three fighters to be precise. The mages were dispatches fairly easy and one fighter idem. However, the two other fighters came close and I went melee. My hp status was 50/60 at that moment. Suddenly my screen flickered and the duergar made a critical hit one me!! I was chunked!! Now, I am guessing (and hoping) this was a game error. I mean, the duergar must have at least done 70 damage to chunk me like that. Illyich never did that, me with my x4 backstab (50 damage) didnt do that, let alone a stupid duergar! So I blamed the game and the comp and proceeded to Illyich and co, pretending as if nothing happened.
We went to the main room, where we faced the tentacle beast before, and prepared ourselves. Me and Yoshimo tried to place as many traps as possible and Jaheira and Immie memorized the spells they needed. Monster Summoning I especially. So we rested and planted some more traps down the corridor and at the main room. Seven in total. Everyone got buffed and Jaheira summoned a Woodland Being and Immie cast MS I. After the buffing and summoning, someone had to scout ahead. Unfortunately, after a toss between Minsc and me, I lost and thus had to go.
I encountered the x-bow user first, shot an arrow and lured her to the traps with Jaheira, whom had Ironskin up. After two traps hit her, Jaheira and the MS I creature went melee on her and Minsc and I started shooting arrows. She was down fast, but our summon was dead...
So I went in search for Illyich again and encountered the Glabezu who, in turn, followed me. After a small chase, some hits and two traps later, the beast was dead. Immie summoned another creature and the summon and I went into the library again. Meanwhile Yoshimo set another three traps. I went in first and saw another famous duergar party . This actually worried me...
However, I also saw three dogs with them, so I called on Minsc and had him charm the dogs. The result is obvious; havoc all over. Minsc and I killed the duergars from a distance and we had one dog and Immies summon left. I called the creatures back, but suddenly Illyich was there!
And now something happened which is just that bit of luck that one needs to win this battle.
Me, Minsc and the creatures walked back, and Illyich attacked. However, he ONLY slowed Immies summon and then attacked it. Missing the summon two times during his attack! So again Minsc and I started releasing a rain of arrows until Illyich was at near dead. The summons, however, were killed, and we closed in on Illyich to finish the job. But it was too late...
Rasputin, the monk, and the Golem came into the room and attacked us. Me and Minsc drank two potions of speed and ran back to the traps. Our three opponents following on our heels...
Luckily Illyich was up front and thus encountered a trap first. Dead followed swiftly. Then the Golem and Rasputin came in, but the golem was, after Illyich died, up front, so all our traps went to waste on him. Minsc then focussed himself on the Golem with the +1 staff and me Jaheira, Yoshimo and Immie on Rasputin. During that battle, the Golem was down first and only Rasputin was left. We killed it with our joined forces. Luckily just in time, because Jaheira was stunned and only had 10 hp left. Rather a close call...
Next, the five of us and some kobold summons, faced Zivago. We let down a rain of arrows and magic missles, so he couldn't summon a deva. Death soon followed for him too.
After this we had decent equipment and the rest of the dungeon was a piece of cake. Finally, open air, but now without Immie...

An update on two's old thread no less. Great stuff, looking forward to seeing how you do with Illy and the boys.
So if any party member gets chunked (you're playing core rules right?), that's it, they're gone for good?
Thank you for your interest kopywrite. And yes, I am playing on core rules. And if any of my NPC's get chuncked, its over (for him/her). So I really have to think on what quest to do first.

Like I said in my former post, I experienced a chunck from my own PC...but I think its a game error. And since I beat Illiych without dying, I am pretending as if nothing happened
I have the Mod's installed in this order:
Ascension, itemupgrade, Tazashop, Ashes of Embers, Apack, Oversight, Banter, Flirt, Improved Oasis, Battles, tactics, Tashia, Unfinished Business, Refinments and Ease of Use
Ease of Use latest, because I want to have to Ranger stronghold only, even though I play with a Fighter(Archer)-Thief. Which means installing and uninstalling the Multiple Strongholds part of the mod a few times...
I played a former game with almost the same (amount of) mod's and experienced no problems. So I dont think things will go beserk this time.

Well played Sytze, that sounded like an epic encounter...any finger nails left?
Yowza. Could be heart breaking. Going to make for a very interesting game though and one that's more in in spirit of pnp too.

Dalis and the sewers
After picking up Tashia and returning to Atkathla we ventured to the bridge district. There we heard about certain deaths and decided to investigate it. After breaking in at the tanners place we encountered a few opponents. Nothing really tough I thought…
But noooo, suddenly a Bone golem (!!) appeared out of nowhere. Boo accidently made a little spot on Minsc’s clothing
Now, I was just backstabbing a thief when the golem appeared near me and Tashia. Luckily, she had stoneskin up in no time and the golem kept hitting her to no avail. A pile of bones was soon left.
Next was getting Dalis. After encountering some strange kobolds in the sewers we travelled on, until something dimension doored itself right in front of us! Suddenly there were two Gauths and one Beholder! Panic broke out and only thanks to a protection spell from, again, Tashia, we managed to beat the three, but with alot of wounds. Talking about nasty suprises!
Next we went to face the wizard and we were able to save Dhalis without too much trouble.
After that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to take on the improved Sewers Party…
Curiosity finally won over hesitation and I decided to take them on. I had Yoshimo plant a few traps near the mage and a few at the entrance to the wizard his lair. Then we buffed up and Jaheira summoned two Fire Elementals. I myself lured the two dwarves and the monk to our party and a fight broke out. The strongest dwarf was quickly taken out, but the mage dimension doored himself near Dalis, who was luckily fighting away from the others. The mage casts ADHW and it was bey bey Dalis… Tashia then dispelled his invisibility and breached the mage’s defences. I send Minsc to the fighter/cleric who summoned some monsters (wolves, bears and skeleton warriors). Minsc didn’t hesitate and charmed the wolves and bears, thanking the cleric. After that, everyone went quickly down and Dhalis was raised again. In the end, Jaheira Minsc and Yoshimo were injured and we lost one fire elemental. Not to bad overall.
However, I learned that traps don’t always have effect on the improved party’s, creatures and what’s more. Further more, mages casting ADHW are very, very, very dangerous. If Dalis was any closer to the rest of the group, we would all have likely died. Now I’m very certain I won’t face any of those improved battles soon. At least, not until we all reached a decent level and got some decent magic resistant spells or items…

Athkatla business
Thank you all for the positive feedback. I played a bit more last evening and unfortunatly experienced one of the game bugs. But I will explain what it was when I get there
@Kaitsuburi: No, Dhalis is not gone....only when a NPC gets chunked its over for him/her, no deaths (for my PC) and no reloads (for everyone)
Now that Dalis joined our little group of adventurers, it was time to help him and his actor friends out. So we travelled to the Bridge district... There some goons attacked us, but they certainly didn’t know who they were dealing with.
After informing Raelis, summoning the “worm gate” and the abduction of Dalis and his troupe, we figured we might as well enter it ourselves and try to free our lost companion. So we did. After a large, but not so hard battle, we got our second pair of Boots of Speed (we bought our first one from the Taza Shop). The rest of the planar prison was relatively easy. Especially since I discovered what a great weapon the backstab multiplier is! Some opponents are killed in a single strike! It struck me that I actually never took full advantage of this ability, because it’s great! I tried it now and then with Yoshimo, but his thaco was always too low. And with Immie, I don’t even start trying…
But since I’m an Archer-Thief, my thaco is very low, very fast, so a hit is pretty much guaranteed. The only thing, which I am still afraid of, are my low saving throws and armour class. If a thief backstabs me, or a mage casts a powerful spell, I could be dead in a single hit. Caution is advised…
However, after beating the master of thralls, the actors were quickly freed and Dalis joined our group.
Next up was the Promenade, so we could sell all our well-earned items. On our way there we encountered a poisoned man, accompanied by some bandits. They were quickly dispatched and the man was brought to the Harper Hold. After bringing him there we encountered Xzar. Jaheira didn’t seem too happy to meet him again, and neither was I, so we declined his request for help, at least, for the moment.
The Docks didn’t really look inviting and Tashia kept asking for a new Robe, so we went to the Adventure Mart and bought her the Robe of Vecna. It was nice to see her smile again, after such a long time.
Next up was Mencar and the Circus tent. We encountered no problems, beat Mencar, cleared the tent and saved a nice young Elf called Aerie. Unfortunately for her, I didn’t have any room in my party at the moment…
When we came out of the circus tent, a young girl approached us with a magical lamp, saying that that was what Kalah used. Next stop was obviously the Gate district. We dispatched the Rakasha, helped the loved ones by splitting them up (isn’t that ironic), freed the Genie and killed the Lich in the Crooked Crane. But what a nasty Lich that was by the way. He summoned a demon, whom, in turn, summoned a demon, etc. Luckily the Lich was killed by the demon and we could grab the loot. Now, we could finally take some well deserved rest.
When we woke up it was morning and the sun was shining brightly. We went outside and what we saw there was quite the surprise… Minsc was the first to notice them.
It were Pooky’s parents. Father and mother Wyvern came seeking for revenge and no matter what we said, battle soon followed. This was such a nasty encounter and we were barely prepared that we didn’t know what to do. So we just attacked, but noticed only ranged weapons had effect. This wasn’t really what you could say; fun.
Only me, Minsc and Yoshimo had ranged weapons, so Jaheira, Dalis and Tashia had to buff up to distract there attacks. Doing that made some annoying Cowled Wizards to appear and they gave us a warning. Farther Wyvern was soon at near dead, but suddenly both shot Fire Arrows at me, so I had to run for my life. I came out of there reach, but now something happened which still annoys me to this moment.
-This is one of the game flaws and I thought I had a Mod installed which prevented this from happing, but apparently not. I fled to the gate, but suddenly an Amnish soldier started talking with a smuggler. I was like; huh?? And before I knew what was happening, Minsc was dead and Jaheira was dead. While in dialog mode!!!!!!!! I clicked and clicked and clicked, but it was too late. I was also soon dead… This isn’t fair! I couldn’t do a thing
Killed while being in dialog mode! So again, I forgot what happened, reloaded (had to do a lot of stuff, again (!!)) and went outside, not being prepared, just like the first time.-
Everything went pretty smooth this time. Father Wyvern was killed, and mother Wyvern was next. But, this was when I made a serious mistake…
I couldn’t hit her for some time and needed Tashia to cast breach. Luckily, no nasty wizards. However, in the meantime Yoshimo and Dalis were killed, but after the breach, so was mother Wyvern. This was truly one hard encounter, but we luckily all survived and noone was chunked...
I still cant forget what happened when in dialog mode though, and it really pisses me off. If anyone knows of a mod, which pauses the game when in dialog mode, please let me know. Thanks.

The Keep
Having just survived a ferocious attack from Wyverns, we decided it was time to do something about the Slavery in the Slums. Upon arrival, two children had a discussion about people being taken to the Copper Coronet. We checked there first and babbled ourselves to the “championship” area. After further investigation Jaheira discovered slave cells and just when we wanted to open them we were attacked. Nothing serious by the look of it, so I let Tashia and Dalis take care of everything, just so the two mages could get some more combat experience…
We then killed the Beastmaster who was holding the keys, let the slaves free and travelled down the sewers. Here we had to solve some strange quest and as a reward we got Lilarcor. It is truly remarkable how Minsc is getting along with that crazy sword
Tashia urged everyone to travel on; because she really hated the filthy sewers. Sigh, women…
After a minute walking we found a slave ship. A battle broke out, the slavers were killed and the children freed. So when we met up with Hendak (the slave leader) in the Copper Coronet and he was mighty grateful.
After all this action in the city we decided it was time to travel through the wilderness. A young woman named Nalia asked for help and we didn’t mind answering her call. The journey took 8 hours and when we finally got there I decided to scout the surroundings. Suddenly two Spirit Trolls attacked me and I had to run for my life not to get charmed and be a sitting duck! The boots of speed ones again proved there worth, but the spell finally caught up with me and I fell asleep. Luckily my party was not to far off and the two trolls were quickly dispatched. We met up with Nalia, who explained the situation and entered the keep. Inside the keep a troll ripped a peasant apart and we happily returned him the favour.
Not willing to risk everything at ones, Yoshimo was sent out to scout the area. What he saw wasn’t exactly what we were hoping to see: two Umberhulks, thee Giant Trolls and four or so Spirit Trolls. Jaheira thought we could handle them, so we did. After some pre-buffing of the mages, me and Yoshimo planted four normal traps. I went invisible and Yoshimo planted a special trap near all the enemies. When it went off, I shot a fire arrow at the umberhulk who was hit and he was dead.
Hell broke out and I ran to the room with all the traps and the rest of my party. The trolls and Umberhulk were quickly near us and the rest of the traps went of, doing only slight damage. Dalis and Jaheira were upfront, having iron- stoneskin and mirrorimage up. Tashia cast a slow spell and the fighting and dodging began. Two spirit trolls were quickly taken out, since we figured they were the dangerous ones with there spells. One umberhulk unfortunately confused Jaheira and she started doing things which didn’t made the rest of the party very happy. A few moments later, one of the spirit trolls threw in a sleep spell. Minsc and Yoshimo started taking a nap on the ground at the worst possible time and place. I feared the worst until Tashia threw in a Teleport Field. This really saved us. Not only were Minsc and Yoshimo safe for a short period of time, but Jaheira was now attacking trolls instead of Dalis. After this the trolls went down one by one, and nobody was really seriously injured. Tashia just earned herself some extra fruit for the rest of the day.
The rest of the keep was fairly easy until we got to Torgal and co…
Yoshimo and I planted a few traps, five to be precise, and everyone buffed up, but only a bit. Jaheira also summoned one Fire Elemental. I then hid myself in shadows and lured Torgal to our room. He was hit by five traps, each doing around ten points of damage. Torgal obviously wasn’t very smart, because he went after me. While I was running in circles, shooting arrows, the rest of the party hacked and slashed in on him. He didn’t survive long.
However, it was not Torgal who we feared, but the rest of his small army. Yoshimo and I planted the few traps we had left and everyone protected himself to the max. Tashia summoned her personal pet and Jaheira another two Fire Elementals. Making it a total of four summons. Dhalis hasted us all and the summons were send in first to absorb the spells and hits. A few seconds later my party followed and hell broke out ones again. I was backstabbing everyone while drinking potions. Jaheira, Minsc, Dalis and Yoshimo were smacking everyone and Tashia let lose a rain of spells.
Things didn’t go quite well though. My entire summon army, except Tashia’s pet, were quickly confused, Minsc and Yoshimo decided to go too sleep again and Dhalis and Jaheira were also confused. Soon Tashia and I were the only sane people in the room. My confused partners fortunately took on the trolls, while I shot fire arrows at the Yuan-Ti mages. When they were dead, only the spirit trolls were still alive. But with everyone running in circles, or sleeping on the ground, it wasn’t easy to beat them. One by one they fell though, until there were only two left. But these two were wrecking havoc on Yoshimo, who was doing nothing in his confused state! He was at near death when the confusion finally stopped and he could drink a potion! Rather a close call there for my fellow thief. One critical hit could have been the end for him…
Ones the fights were over, we informed Nalia of what happened, and I was made Lord of the Keep. Quite the title if I may say so. Bragging and irritating Jaheira with my new title was thus my favourite time occupation during our way back to Atkathla.
Upon arrival, three Wyverns suddenly ambushed us. Blaming us for the death of there last female! I tell you; there are truly no sane creatures in this world… I am only defending myself from attacks. Bah!!!
Sadly enough for the Wyverns, our strength has increased since the last encounter and we now also know how to take care of them. The fight was soon over and we travelled on.
Making our way through the bridge district, we dispatched some bandits hiding in a house. Luring them out one by one made them quite easy. After that, we bought some new items from Ribald, paid a visit to the Government district, saw an old friend and freed her.
Walking on, we were asked for help by a young boy, claiming that his town was being massacred. So now on to the Umar Hills it is. I just hope that we are strong enough…

"I was also soon dead… This isn’t fair! I couldn’t do a thing Killed while being in dialog mode! So again, I forgot what happened, reloaded (had to do a lot of stuff, again (!!)) "
That is so annoying, happens in the bridge district too with the blokes from BG1 fighting over Bubbles...
What sort of level is everyone at now?

levels
Me: Level 9 Archer level 11 Thief
Jaheira: level 9 Fighter level 12 Druid
Minsc: level 10 Ranger
Dalis: level 13 Blade
Tashia: level 12 Sorceress
Yoshimo: level 13 Bountyhunter
Everyone is pretty close to leveling-up.
I am also suprised that I can honoustly say I have not yet died, unless a game error/flaw "screwed" me (for the lack of a better word).
I beat Illyich, Improved Torgal/Trolls, Sewers Party and the bridge district party without dying or getting a NPC chunked.
Also, playing with no deaths, no reloads is alot of fun and you truly start appreciating everyones skills and the abilties of certain items. I always used Hide in Shadows, Trap Setting and Spell casting. But using abilities like Charm Animal, Dalis Spins, every single spell in Tashia's spellsbook, etc. is not something I did. Most of the time it was a bit buffing, casting only the most powerful spells, charging in and then see what fate brought me. No more though! This is alot more fun

It sounds it, I might try it myself next time through...
Strongly advise getting a magic liscense ASAP (or are you chaotic neutral?)
"we travelled on, until something dimension doored itself right in front of us! Suddenly there were two Gauths and one Beholder! Panic broke out and only thanks to a protection spell from, again, Tashia, we managed to beat the three, but with alot of wounds. Talking about nasty suprises!"
I jumped out of my skin when that happened...new addition in Tactics v18 I think.

No, I am Chaotic Good (as mentioned in my first post) but I just dont buy a licence from the Cowled ones. Being principal and all that
And indeed, I wonder if there are more nasty suprises, cause if so, then this will be a very hard journey. Next stop: Shade Lord.
In this battle I truly need a bit of luck... Hopefully me, Tashia and Jaheira will survive. Being the core of our party.

Sytze has asked me to close this thread, as a result of a hard drive crash. I imagine he'll continue his adventures when things get back to normal, and I'll reopen it upon his request.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Thank you fable

Surprisingly enough, the Temple Ruins went very well. Upon entering the dungeon, every single opponent was taken care of fairly easy. Shadows, skeletons and what else made way by our display of power.
Things actually got a bit interesting when we got to the two Liches. One can be found in the room behind the lava pit and the other to the entrance to the floor full of letters. The strange thing however, is that a Pit Fiend is with every Lich. This is both a blessing as a curse. It is a blessing, because the Fiend kills every single ally of the Lich. This meant I didn’t have to fight the Greater Mummies and the Skeleton Warriors. On the other hand, it is a curse, because the improved Pit Friends are very, very, and I am not exaggerating here, very nasty…
Improved Invisible after each turn, throwing Fireballs here and there, summoning other Fiends to aid them. I can go on for a while. Since I don’t have a cleric in my party, battles like these are quite hard. It made me regret I didn’t take Aerie, the elf from the circus, Anomen or Viconia, our old drow friend, along.
Dalis had to memorise Protection from Evil for our entire party. Well mostly for me, but anyway. We survived the encounters like this:
Jaheira summoned a fire elemental before every fight. Then Yoshimo went in, invisible of course and carrying the Boots of Speed. When the Lich saw him, it casts Death Spell and some protection spells. Right after the Lich casts Death Spell, Yoshimo runs and the Fire Elemental takes his place, absorbing all the symbols. Dalis, with every single protection available, then lured the Lich to the Lava pit and kept running in circles until it died. For a Lich he wasn't very smart. We moved on and skipped the room where only the Pit Fiend was still left, waiting until it would be un-summoned. The second Lich however, couldn’t be lured into a lava pit and therefore had to be fought one-on-one. We got it to near death when it suddenly cried out a Wail of The Banshee!! Thank god I made my saving throw! So did the rest of the party, except for Tashia. Luckily she was able to be resurrected.
We ventured on into the dark and dusky dungeon until we got the Shadow Dragon. I dared not attack it, such a powerful and awesome foe. So we passed it and went to the Shadelord. We buffed up, and I send Tashia with all her protections up and, this is very important, a Protection from Magic Enegry and Necromancy spell. When the dialog was over everyone of the party hacked happily away at Patrick and the Shade Portal. Meanwhile, Tashia distracted the Shadelord. His spells (especially ADHW) went to waste on her and after Patrick and the portal were dead, everyone quickly focused there attention of the Lord. After a few Breaching and dispelling spells, the Shadelord was quickly turned into dust. Sadly enough, Minsc was our only loss, but he could be resurrected. This rod of ours is almost depleted..
So after rescuing the hills we went to The Promenade, but we were attacked by 5 Wyverns this time!….the stupid thing however, is that they were neutral, so I simply smacked away at them. A day later the same thing happened. Luckily, these where the last Wyvern encounters, the creatures never seem to learn.
After selling our stuff we decided to visit the Guarded Compound. This wasn’t hard and no one died. Combining Jaheira’s Insect Plague with a few summons, backstabs, True Sights, Flame Arrows and a rain of other arrows and hits, we did the job fairly easy. No deaths whatsoever. The loot is ours. Yeah baby, Dalis got Celestial Fury now!

"Sometimes Dreams are wiser than waking"
After this, we decided to do the Unseeing Eye quest. Jaheira kept hammering that we should do this first. Priests pretending the arrival of a new God apparently made her nervous. I have no idea why…
The sewers where already empty and we ventured on until we met up with Gaal, who urged us to go deeper, in search of the great device. So we did. When we came upon a large bridge, a few Beholders were hoovering above the ground. Yoshimo and I planted a few traps, everyone got hasted and protected, plus Tashia assaulted the fell beasts with area spells. Three of the five beasts were killed because of the traps and spells and the other two soon followed there companions.
We moved on to the diseased ones, got the first part of the great device and moved to the Beholders Lair. Upon entering we encountered a few Mummies and a Lich. Nothing to hard about it, since we’ve encountered killed some before.
Walking further on a wooden bridge we discovered an entrance which was more like flesh then anything else. It looked as if it was alive and a truly sick smell came from the dark hallway in front of us…
Upon entering the Beholder Lair, there were no enemies. This, I thought, couldn’t be right, so I scouted ahead. In the first small room I entered, there was a Gauth. At this point I actually wondered if it would be possible to backstab a beholder…
Apparently not and I had to hit the beast with al my strength in order to survive! Taking risks like this is not something I’ll be doing the rest of the journey... The party met up with me and Yoshimo volunteered to scout the rest of the lair. It seems he noticed I was injured from the encounter with the dead Gauth on the floor.
He pinpointed every location of enemy priests and other Beholders. So we took the single Beholders out one by one and the priests where, thanks to Minsc’ “Charm Animal”, quickly dispatched off.
Our next combat involved another group of five beholders, but this time we only had two traps left. So Jaheira summoned a few Fire Elementals, me and Dalis drank a Potion of Speed and Tashia lured the beasts out with a fireball. Because of the traps and the fireball, one beholder died and while our summons distracted the beholder rays, the rest of us focused our power on one Beholder at the time. These are very dangerous battles, because beholders also have the tendency to cast “Flesh to Stone” spells. Which means, that either my own life can be over within seconds, or the romance with Tashia can be broken down. And since I don’t reload, well, you all know what that means... I could of course have bought the Shield of Balduran, but that makes the battles very dull in my humble opinion…
So after beating the beholders, we constructed the Rift Device and killed the Unseeing Eye. An easy target now we had the incredible power of the device at our disposal.
With the dead of the Uber-Beholder, we freed the diseased ones by returning the great device, killed Gaal and reported back to the church. They seemed very happy and rewarded us with a mace. Yes, you heared that correct. A simple mace for crying out loud! The cheap bastards! I've killed countless of Beholders, some mummies and a Lich. And what do we get? A mace?!? The mace is even much too weak to use it! And its not even fashionable or pretty!! I could’ve used some gold so I could buy the Shadow Thieves…
Speaking of the little devils; the last time we entered the Docks district and got in conflict with a few Harpers, Yoshimo mentioned that he needed to see Renal.
First however, we could do with a little nap. We haven’t had a decent sleep since we accepted the Church request for help. That, and Tashia keeps asking for a bed and Minsc is yawning continuously.
