Karembeu: I think the Voltaire quite is:

"I dissapprove of what you say, but I will defend to death your right to say it"

The Swedish translation, reads like this, I think:

"Jag håller inte med dig om det du säger. Men med mitt liv skulle jag försvara din rätt att säga det."

@Karembeu:
Not being able to read french, I can't give you the excat quote - there are many english interpretation of it:

"I don't agree with a single word you are saying, but I'll defend until my death your right of saying them"

"I disapprove of what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

etc.
All with the same meaning though :)

The best way to begin a day well is to think, on awakening, whether we cannot give pleasure during the day to at least one person. If this could become a substitute for the religious habit of prayer our fellow-men would benefit by the change

@Ubik, "Weasel, you wanker" does not count as a notable quote, since that requires (according to the rules )a universality that results from more than 5,000 uses in the past, and...

Hm. Oh, wait a minute.

Well, it would appear "Weasel, you wanker" does qualify, after all. Carry on.

"Even if you strive diligently on your chosen path day after day, if your heart is not in accord with it, then even if you think you are on a good path, from the point of view of the straight and true, this is not a genuine path. If you do not pursue a genuine path to its consummation, then a little bit of crookedness in the mind will later turn into a major warp. Reflect on this." ~Musashi Miyamoto, "The Book of Five Rings"
