Yes, I have read it. It was an excellent book, though not as good as the first, IMO. I didn't think the characters aged well....

Sun Tzu is good if your a BC Chinaman. Likewise, Machiavelli is good if your a Rennaissance European.
They make good reading and are of great historical interest but their relevance for modern war is purely theoretical.
Try Carl von Clausewitz, "On War", its in a a similar vein.
Also: Jomini's "Art of War".
Alternatively, read the US Army's Battle Doctrine (AirLand Battle - not sure if it has moved on from this) - its all you need to know.

Well I'm not reading Machiavelli' Art of War because I think that you can use their kind of warfare in modern days. I would guess that also goes for those reading Sun Tzu.
But there are ideas that can be used in modern day, as I've mention above for instance the business world and management.
Military warfare/theories are constantly undergoing changes - so it is difficult to even read/write about modern warfare with out it being obsolete.

@Weasel: Have you read the Gap Series from Stephen Donaldson? IMHO the best series ever!
The characters and their desires etc were just brilliant.

I am not so sure about the theoretical part. I know that Sun Tzu is required literature at the military academy here in Holland

With the epidemic of double (triple

) posts today, I think Weasel did something to the board, again.

(Oh, wait! I was defending Weasel! Okay, scratch that last comment.)

My first was the Covenant Trilogy, haven't read the second trilogy, I have heard it isn't a patch on the first and I'd be disappointed.
Clive Barker is also a really good author (IMO very near SD)

Harry Turtledove is the king of 'what if' fiction. I've read his World War series (lizard like aliens land in 1942 or '43).
I also like Peter Hamilton.
Nobody's mentioned Orson Scott Card with Ender's Game. One of the best books I've read in a while.

@Blueman- I agree. Ender's Game is one of the best books I've ever read. One of the only books I truly couldn't put down.
How about Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books? Anyone else like his work?

@Rail....I have seen the name Orson Scott Card but can not put a name to the book I read by him.

@Rail...I can't remember...too many books and not enough brain cells...you know I have every book I have read since I was 18 years old....the good ones and the bad ones. Never going to get rid of them either...I would like to have my own library one day..
