ntl, huh? Are they any good? IMO they are moneygrabbing bastards, but that's just cos the university has an ntl phone network and they are blatently trying to squeeze as much money as possible out of the poor students (they charged for phoning 0800 numbers! How cheeky is that??? ).
But then most ISPs seem fairly unreliable. A friend of mine just got a BT ADSL line installed. He had to phone them and tell them (amongst other things) what username he wanted. He asked for "lukew", which was taken. So he asked for "luke_w". Fine, said the guy on the other end of the phone. The next day he got a confirmation email: Your new username is "lukeunderscorew"... D'oh!!
... just finished making my midterm exams. Off to (real) bed now for me. It's 10.30pm local time.
Have a nice Sunday folks. As for me, I'm bracing myself for another Garfield Monday.
Thanks for the breathing space here in your establishment, Georgi.

Yeah, ntl are ok when you have them at home, it is just there customer care is bad. It has taken 7 weeks since I enquired to be connected. There service is good compared to bt though so people do wait. It is £15 a month for free Internet and a line rental, and local calls are pretty cheap to.
I remember at uni we had a firm called diamond cable. To have a phone in you room was £40 a year (mmmmm) and then you had to buy phone cards to use them. They were complete ripoffs as it cost 12p a minute for a local call of peak. Also, it was impossible to use up all the money as you would end up with about 5p left on your card which you could not use! It was free to ring people in uni though.

That is pretty good Most unmetered ISPs charge £12-£15 just for the internet access.
Well, when you say that, it makes ntl's phone system look good They had phones in every room, and you could call anywhere else on campus free. Aside from the internal connection to the uni computer system, which was mysteriously blocked meaning you had to use... ntl's ISP. The costs of calls were not too bad, IIRC, but incoming calls were charged at national rates (even if you were calling locally). Bah. How long is it since you were at uni, anyway?

Can I have a pint of Grolsch please if one is going?
Oh, I see, very kind of you *thinks to herself, what a well-mannered young man*
A pint of Grolsch, certainly *slides it over the bar*
I hear they are trying to stop beer being served in pints, you know. Metricization (if that is a word) and all that. Shocking.

@ Gwalchmai (sp?) - Hi there! Where is tucson to be so early in the morning, is it on the west coast of the US?
We're in Arizona, currently on Mountain Time, one hour shy of the Pacific Time Zone. That changes, though, as Arizona doesn't belive in Day-light Savings Time. Yeah, we had to be special....
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

If I cannot have a pint can I have a 0.56344221 of a litre of Grolsch?
I can imagine But what was your degree, were you an arts student with no lectures ever (like me ) or did you actually have to get up early occasionally?
Oh, and you can have a pint. Damned if I'm going to serve beer in anything else
@Gwalchmai - Is Arizona one of those hot sandy states? Isn't Phoenix the state capital (that is i think the only place I know in Arizona).
@ Georgi - I did Mechanical Engineering as my first degree - that involved having way too many lectures and way too much work! We had about 20 hours a week including in first year of lectures not including project work! i then went and did an MSc in Computer Science which I finished in September (hence the strange date) which was not as bad but involved having to write a dissertation over the summer. Thanks for the beer!

Ewwww, Mech Eng, I sympathize... (I have 4-5 contact hours a week ) So, my friend has this theory that engineers are among the most desperate of male students, what do you think?
@ Gwalchmai - sounds nice - bit better than cold damp britain!
@ Georgi - Engineers...desperate? Errr.
I work in the telecoms industry at the moment, I have been on a course this week which involves me travelling to Coventry every day - Means getting up at 5.30am! Finishes on wednesday though.

The weather just about anywhere is better than cold damp Britain
So, you agree then? Well, at least they are trying to help out the poor engineers round here, someone has organised an engineers and nurses party
5:30am The only time I'm up that early is if I haven't got to bed yet!
