Romance?

Post by Quitch »

Has anyone else noticed how the male characters seem to only pick up the emotionally vunerable women? Image

Aerie has suffered all her life in the circus and hero worships you.

Jaheira has just lost he husband and turns to you for support.

Viconia, driven from her home and dispised by all around her.

You sure know how to pick em. Not only that, but these so called "romances" end (generally) once you've slept with them. They were written by men weren't they Image

Now in Jaheira's case, I think it's likely that it is expected to take the entire game to conclude the romance, which is fairly realistic considering romances with her only happen in Chapters 2, 3 and 6. But even so, it does seem rather shallow.

I'm just hoping for a BG 3, since the Jaheira romance is the only one that works out in the end, presumably they'll kick off with the assumption you got together......hopefully, that should add a nice extra dimension.

Female players, you have my sympathy. Anomen is very irritating, and to be lumbered with that arrogant SOB........wouldn't Haer'Dalis have made an interesting one? Image

But now I'm off to finish my BG 2 game (this is gonna take a while still), so I can play again as Evil incarnate, and go with Viconia this time Image

A high level of commitment could change the pace quite a bit...Our hero leaves his little cottage in the Slums to work his steady 9 to 5 with Cromwell, rushes home for a bit of "quality time" with the kids, maybe gets out one night a fortnight to go "adventuring" with his mates..... Image

@Quitch

so i'm not the only one who realized most of what you said :P , they should still allow you to pick which one to start with to patch up/continue the romances with the other if you so wish

p.s. yes the romances options may be emotionally vulnurable(tell me one person, male or female, who _isn't_ at least a little, and pity them mostlikely i will) but at least they have some depth to their character, one of the one's imo who actually has the most depth is viconia, if you actually think about it

All three of the female romances play pretty well, I think. And I get irritated at people who post comments about Aerie being whiny or Jaheira fretting too much about Khalid or Vic being a nymphomaniac. From a narrative standpoint, these are some of the strongest aspects of the game. After what Aerie's been through and the sheltered life she's lived since her capture, it seems perfectly reasonable for her to be more than a little gunshy. As for J, too upset about the torture and murder of her spouse?! I sure feel sorry for the current or future spouses of people who think that constitute weakness. As for Vic, she's interesting because she's vulnerable but she sure as hell won't admit it. She uses intimidation and sex to try to feel like she has some control over her world, but she knows that she doesn't, and that frustrates her. She's like a kid raised by KKK members--she has a feeling that what she was taught as a child is not the way it has to be, but she's still heavily controlled by her indoctrination...a tragic figure, if you ask me.

As for Anomen...well, he's just an idiot.

Acutally, only Aerie is emotionally unstable. WAKE UP! Viconia is using you to get what she wants. She knows she's hot and she knows you're powerful. Hmmm....

Jaheira is acutally very stable and independant. She gets over Khalid's death while vowing revenge at the same time. She turns to the PC as a friend because that's what you are, the romantic aspect devolopes over time, the fact that she decides to side with you over the Harpers makes her see her true feelings.

Well, he comes Amomen Defence force.

Hazim ibn Gorion is right about the females, Amomen(since most play a male charater) is arrogant but consider this, his mother died when he was still a child, his father was a druken that is always bulling him, he never get any type of "good work son" from him, he is spending most of time around the order (and you know how paladins are), so if you have him in the party jaheira even say this to him "you only see one side, never see the bigger picture"(or something like this).
Besides after he becames Sir Amomen, he start to drop those arogant looks, that was he simply was trying to be at the order espectations of him, not realizing that he does not need to be like that.
- Waterdeep city constrution.

- Shadowdale low level adventure module.

- Rashmare /Thay high level adventure module.

LOL!

She did however say she couldn't imagine settling down just yet....

But then you only get a third of the depth you would otherwise have had. You dind't get a choice of who followed you into BG2, so I doubt they'd offer a choice in this respect either.

But I still think it's rather shallow they all end after sex (not so much a romance as a conquest), but what the hey eh Image
