I have ordered a new computer, and I was wondering how NWN2 would run on it.
I have heard that NWN2 has some performance issues even on good rigs, so this worries me. Here are my specs -
AM2 5200+ CPU
4GB DDR2 800 RAM
Gigabyte 3870 512MB graphics card
The OS will be 32bit Vista Ultimate
Am I going to have problems running NWN2 at the highest graphic level?
How will NWN2 run on my new rig
I can't say with any certainty, nor would I want to, as I am no expert, and I've heard it runs good on SOME computers but not others, but if my experiences with NWN2 are any evidence, then, yes, you probably will have problems.
It's been really frustrating for me, it runs really inconsistently. Sometimes it will ALMOST work, at a framerate that is at least PLAYABLE, of around 30-40fps, but other times it will drop to 4-7fps, and my computer is at least comparable to your computer, and that's with a few settings NOT at max as well.
Again, though, I speak only from personal experience, and I've heard some people with worse computers can run it fine. So, basically, MAYBE you'll have problems, maybe you won't. NWN2 seems to be temperamental. If it feels like it, you'll be fine, but if NWN2 is grumpy...
Sorry I can't be more helpful. And good luck!

It isn't the game per se. ALL the 3rd person rpg'esq games can be tough on computers once you get a large grouping of on-screen effects (i.e. battles with lots of spells being fired off).
I think the real question for your configuration is:
What resolution setting will you have for your monitor? THAT can make a big difference.

Well, as mentioned, you shouldn't have a problem wandering round the game or even playing online in a PW but there "could" be problems if you end up in a area with a lot of players with lots of spell effects etc going on. That would only likely happen online though.nwnfan wrote:I have ordered a new computer, and I was wondering how NWN2 would run on it.

I have a single core 3.4ghz P4 with just 1gb ram and a 8800GTS with 512meg onboard and run it in 1280x1024 and have no problems at all. I think a lot of the scarier stores were from a few patches ago. I had problems running the game at all when it was released but have had no problems for a long while. Not to say that there would be no problems for you of course as it's down to the individual machine but I'd say with that rig you should be ok although I have no idea how it runs under Vista as I have XP myself.

I run NWN2 on vista x86, e6600, 2GB RAM, hd3850 1280*1024, all settings the highest and game runs smoothly. At least in single-player.nwnfan wrote: AM2 5200+ CPU
