Why do I lose reputation for fighting a demon?
I bought Wilbur's sword which he had stolen from a demon (Part of a quest mod). Naturally, I didn't want to give such an evil creature such a powerful weapon, so I fought it when it asked for it back. I was doing very nicely when the cowled wizards turned up and imprisoned it. However, I lost three reputation points, bringing me down to seventeen. Can anybody answer me as to why I lost those points, and secondly whether that would cause a problem in my relationship with Saerileth (We're totally devoted to each other)..

Weird, i've never had that. I don't think it's more than a nuisance though, you could get about 30 reputation with that mod...

The best explanation I've heard is that you aren't killing the demon fast enough....forcing the Cowled Wizards to take time out of their busy schedules to clean up your mess.
You're losing reputation, not for being evil, but for being weak/unreliable...I agree that the rep loss is a little harsh because the only party I've had that was able to kill the demon within the time limit was was massively power-gamed.
