What offensive mage type do you like to create?

When given the option - what school of magic do you usually specialize in?
I tend to be drawn towards the lightning/air magic schools of magic
It must be something about those lightning bolts and thunder storms!

I like to play a summoner with all kinds of monsters, undead etc. to do the fighting and giving me the XP and treasure (hehe) but an illusionist if I'm playing some kind of scoundrely mage. Think Ravnos. XD

I'm pretty much in to Lightning/Air as well. I tend to avoid Fire, since I think that that is so cliché.

Ah so sorry I'm a sucker for oldschool inferno's.
Though whenever it's viable I do prefer pure arcane magic like missile storms and force lances.

I play with the most offensive and destructive character there is (mostly fire). Of course I still make my defence as good I can get it (e.g. stonekin in NWN). I haven't liked summoners after I played as Necromancer in Diablo 2 and I couldn't beat anybody in act 4 in the second difficulty stage.

Heh...did you use skeletons -without- amplify damage? That curse is a lifesaver for summoners.
Personally, I like transmuters or ones that can buff themselves up in many various ways either through shapeshifting, increasing speed, dexterity, strength, health, or anything that'll help them survive when a few fireballs aren't enough.

When fireballs aren't enough, you're just not using enough of them.
Rule 34: "If you’re leaving scorch-marks, you need a bigger gun."
and
Rule 37: "There is no 'overkill.' There is only 'open fire' and 'time to reload.'"
Hm... Maybe an evoker is more my kind of a spellcaster.

I like to make a mage with above average damage output, but with some skills/spells that hinder/demoralize/curse the target. I'm not sure what school that'd be in the classic DnD setting. Nothing wrong with a good old fireball though, that cliché is so popular for a reason

I'm an illusionist, basically. Invisibility, teleport, levitation, stunning of opponents, etc.
