Barbarian Prestige Classes

Post by Tiberius James »

Are there any good ones? What are the options, I have a friend that is new and trying out the Barbarian and immediatly regreted his decision because he feels like a mindless fighter.

Well, theres the Bear Warrior and the Frenzied Berserker, both are in the Complete Warrior. I mean, theres alot a Barbarian can do, other then just his rage, his feat and skill choices can also help. But Barbs and good for killing things fast. Animal Lord is also another one that fits in with the Barbs, its in the Complete Adventurer. But if anyone can tell you how to get a broken Barb its Siberys. He breaks alot of characters....

Frenzied Berserker is certainly among the better barbarian PrCs.
Try the Pounce-variant Barb (Complete Champion), with the Whirlwind Attack Barbarian (Unearthed Arcana), Frenzied Berserker, Power Attack, Leap Attack (Complete Adventurer), Shocktrooper (Complete Warrior), a Valorous weapon and Battlejump (Both in Unapproachable East.) Oh, and Greater Mighty Whallop. (A Spell from Races of the Dragon.)
While Raging and Frenzy-ing, this gives, roughly, somewhere along 600 - 700 damage, probably more.

There's also the Rage Mage (Complete Warrior), if you want a Barbarian with spells.

Weretouched Master (from Eberron) fits nicely.

My personal favourite is the Champion of Gwynharwyf, from Exalted Deeds. Divine Grace, DR and spells? Yes, please.

Son of the wild

this class i think was originally in mongoose's "Quessensial Druid" book how ever it was considered a barbarian druid its a class where the character was basicly abandoned and was raised by a pack of certain animal chosen by the player for example i had tried it with a dwarf who was raised by bears so he was very primal in nature but had some aspects of the druid class such as animal affinity if i remember correctly it has been a while so look into if youre interested it is a fun class though granted you do lack more "people skills" since you have been raised by animals

Or for a more interseting twist. Rogue/Barb. Get right up there, then Boom, Rage and flanking! Even worse, use a bow, get a str bonus on it that you can use while raging :D

Twohanded weapons let you add 1.5* STR, as opposed to a bow's straight up STR. Not to mention Power Attack. And you're using DEX to attack.

Found another Barb PrC: Blood Claw Master, from Tome of Battle.

But bows cant be used with power attack. Instead use Raptor School from the complete warrior and the leap attack feat from Complete advent

This wont help to change barbarian away from mindless brute but Paragon classes are really good imo. I dont know the race of the character but Half-orc paragon fits perfect with barbarians, its from the unearthed arcana i think.

Its just in how you play the char, thats all. Theres nothing wrong with the char's that like to kick in the doors. But its always more fun to make the bad guys do it for you!
