Hi, just found this great site!

Hi, I played this game a few years back and have recently reinstalled it onto my new computer. I have never found a game since that had such a great RP concept and story, with so many options to personalise the game. Back then I didn’t have the internet, and my questions are about the patches I keep coming across, what do they add/change in the game and can they create problems and delete old save files?

Also as I’m so excited about finding an actual forum dedicated to the game that’s now so old, I was wondering what other games similar in play to Arcanum people on here would suggest trying?

Eschalon and Avernum.
Fallout (1 & 2, not 3), but they're even older than Arcanum.
Maybe Temple of Elemental Evil from Troika and Vampire: Bloodlines.

I'm playing wizardry 8 for the first time, and I'm loving it. About the same character customization as Arcanum, but you can create you own party of 6!

It's first person though, rather than isometric, but is turned-based. It seems like it's more about combat than story though....

It's more in line of Might and Magic. There's a lot of story, but you have to go with it, rather than be an active part of it.
