Have you played Ahriman's Prophecy?
It's a Japanese style RPG. Reminded me of Dragon Warrior or Zelda. It was done by indie developer Amaranth Games, also the creator of Aveyond. (In fact, Aveyond is Ahriman's Prophecy's sequel.)
The good news is that the game is FREE at the developer's website (Amaranth Games - Fun games for everyone!). When I decided to give it a try, I thought I would play only a couple hours then uninstall it, but I played it from beginning to end and really enjoyed it.
That said, don't expect a masterpiece: there is nothing revolutionary in it, but it's fun! I would not have any regrets even if I had paid for it. It entertained me for five days (it's about 30 hours long).
If you give it a try, don't forget to download the manual. It does not come with the game and you need it to know where to find the first NPCs you have to visit.
I also suggest you give it some time since I did not like it very much in the first hours.
If I had to rate it, I would give it approximately 7.4/10.

Ahriman's Prophecy is fun, but you should check out the same developers other two games, Aveyond and Aveyond 2. Ten times better than Ahriman (though that's not to say that Ahriman isn't fun).
Listen up maggots, Mr. Popo's 'bout to teach you the pecking order.
