actual spells of past levels?

Post by mistered »

Is it possible to up the number of actual spells of past levels of a sroceresss? Charisma only increases spell DC, spell level and copies of spell.

What I mean is I want to have some spells in earlier levels but they are not available now.

Bards and Sorcerers gain a fixed number of spells known from level 1 up to level 20. The number of spells of a level and when they are gained are predetermined and nothing other than gaining a level (of up to level 20) in the class would gain you new spells known.

So to answer your question, no. Unless you gain a new level that would allow you to trade a spell for the one you want, there is no way to know them. (Certain levels of sorcerers allow you to forget a spell to know a new spell of equal level. of a level lower than what you can currently cast.) You can still cast them if you can obtain a scroll however. That is the price the sorcerer pays over the wizard for more spells slots per day and the flexibility to not need to predetermine available spells before resting.

So you are saying sorceress can still swap spells like wizard but at a limited extend. I am at level 10 sorceress and haven't seen anything like it, can you give me a specific level which allows sorceress to swap spells?

Right here: the Sorcerer
Starting at 6th level, and every two levels after, sorcerers can replace one known spell with a new spell of the same level. The spell that can be replaced must be two spell levels below what the sorcerer can currently cast (1st level spell at 6, 1st or 2nd level spell at 8, 1st or 2nd or 3rd level spell at 10, and so forth).
The spell swapping is not directly obvious, because you would need to remove a spell from your list, only would you get the option to replace it (as you would have one empty space for the spell now). If you can remove a spell, your spell list should be brighter; if you note the dimmer spells list of those levels you cannot make a spell exchange.

What I suggest is that when you enter the level up screen for spells, you check the pages for the lower level spells and see if you can remove a spell from your list. If you can, then would be able to choose a different spell from the spell level you have removed, replacing the spell.

I'd like to note you should only be able to replace one spell at every opportunity however; so you would likely gain 1-2 new spells, replace 1 spell of a lower level and that's it; until the next time.

Also a note on Wizards' are that they never forget or loose a spell they've learned. By having choose their spells before resting, they gain the advantage of spell repertoire. They can, given persistence on the players part, buy and learn new spells to complement those he gains at level up; eventually knowing every spells in the game.
