Hello.

I've had this game for a long time now, never gotten around to finish it. Due to lack of time and such. Now that I've finally decided to play through it, I would like some tips. To get the most out of the game, storywise and such, how should I put out the stats for my character? I've read that you get more choices with high int. or something. Pointers here would be very much appreciated. And I would also like to know what mods that is required for the most enjoyable gameplay.

Personally, I always put my highest stats into Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma. This tends to give you the most interesting dialogue options.
Unlike similar games, you can get through PS:T with very little combat if you so choose, so Strength, Con etc. are far less important.

Start with getting so much wisdom as fast as you can, thats the really big game changer, dialouge wise in this game. Then concentrate at INT and CHA, just some hours into the game you can become a wizard so i heighly recommend that proffesion over fighther or thief if you want the most out of the game dialouge and story wise

The most important stat by far is wisdom, it yields the most dialogue options, extra experience and also a luck bonus which is extremely useful, not only in combat. Start with at least 16 wisdom, which is enough for the dialogues, but more is even better.

Int and cha only offer few additional dialogue options if you have 16+ wis. Don't start with more than 16 int or increase it above 16 at level up, even when you prefer magic. You can use equipment to raise it to 18, more is useless.
The "friends" spell raises cha by up to 8, 20 cha offers optimal shop prices.

Don't take 18/xx strength at the start or increase it to 18/xx at level up. You need 6 stat points to get from 18 to 19, but if you get a +1 strength boost from another source it will go directly from 18 to 19.
Even with 9 strength you can get 19 if you use a strength spell, get a lucky roll and wear an item which grants +1 strength.
9 str yields enough carrying capacity, there's no armor in the game. There's no real benefit for having mediocre instead of minimal strength.

Dexterity offers only very few additional options and you have to spend a lot of points for a little combat bonus. For thieving skills you get more than enough skillpoints even with 9 dex. I usually ignore it.

Con offers no extra dialogue options at all, but it's the most useful combat stat. With 9 con you regenerate 1 HP every 60 seconds, each additional point speeds this up by 5 seconds, with very high con you even regenerate several hitpoints per second. I like fast healing, if you're injured from a battle paying for healing, searching a resting place or dying to get the HP up again isn't that fun. If you start with 14+ con and raise another stat afterwards you get 10 more hitpoints than if you start with 9 con and raise it to 14+ later.
For high con you get extra hitpoints for each level.


Storywise 16+ wis is enough to get nearly everything. You can powergame for dialogue options by keeping the physical stats at 9 and increasing only int, wis and cha, but it can be very annoying playing a weakling who hides behind his party members and needs several attempts to win a little fight. Although dialogues are very important in PST, there's still a lot of combat.

If you want you can fight respawning monsters endlessly until all your stats are 25, so don't focus too much on stats and stat boosts.

It's very beneficial if the class which reaches level 12 first is the same which reached level 7 first.


If I'd create a new character I'd start with 14 con for the regeneration and 10 extra hitpoints I wouldn't get when raising it from 9 later and 18 wisdom for dialogue, XP and luck.
I'd also take 16 str which I'd raise to 18 at the next 2 level ups and never again. Make sure to reach level 7 and 12 as fighter first.
If you want a little more dialogue early you can also start with 9 str and 16 int and raise only strength until you reach 18 to get the same power later.

If you don't want to go the fighter route (which yields the most powerful character) I recommend to start with 14 con, 18 wis and 16 int. Make sure the class you want to focus on is the first class which reaches level 7 and 12.

I recommend to save often and to use different slots. There are at least two situations where you can mess up the game horribly. It's better to be safe than sorry.
It's the most fun if you rarely reload. Take the dialogue options you like the most, don't reload or powergame for the "best" results, keep in mind that you can always get a perfect character by fighting respawning monsters, it doesn't matter if you get a stat boost or a few XP or GP more or less.
Don't powergame for alignment or getting every subquest either.
Dying has no negative consequences, as well as temporarily dismissing party members.

I don't think a mod is necessary, I had a lot of fun playing the game unmodded.
