multiclass problem

multiclass problem

I play a bard/pale master/RDD.

First 3 levels of bard
then 2 levels of pale master
then 2 levels of RDD
then 1 level of bard

It worked up to that point.
When I leveled up to 9, pale master was greyed out. What's happening?

I did it twice so something is there that I don't understand, or is it a bug?

To enable the Pale Master as an option, you must be non-good, which is as simple as selecting something neutral or something evil alignment in character creation, or simply doing deeds that are not good in game.

The Pale Master also has a requirement of 3 arcane spell levels, meaning that you must be able to at least cast one level 3 arcane spell. The RDD levels do not gain you spell casting levels, so you will have to rely on your Bard levels for that. Spell levels are not simply levels of a class that gives spellcasting, so in your case, Bard 3 is insufficient.

According to the spells per day/known table for the bard in the original handbook that came with NWN, you'd need at least 7 or 8 Bard levels to be able to cast your first level 3 spell, depending on how good your Charisma is. Although I'm not 100%, I think 7 Bard levels should suffice to meet the prerequisite set by the Pale Master.

Did you read my post carefully. Since I ALREADY HAVE 2 levels of pale master after 3 levels of bard. So what you said doesn't explain well, does it?

BTW, according to Wkii, it is level of char not level of spell that regulates the accessibility of PM.

Bran black Boon: B4/PM26/RDD10

Hmm... then apparently it's my mistake for reading it as spellcaster level, and for not reading your post correctly. Sorry.

I'm not sure then why you would lose access to PM other than that you'd gain a good alignment somehow. Unless there are other requirements for PM that is not written. I've never really played the PM so have not encountered, nor read about a bug with the PM.

Alignment shift. Up to now, I have only played the good guys, so I didn't pay attention to it. Sorry, Shift214, and thank you for point that out.

My bad mistaking your OP anyway. Strange that it asks for caster level instead of spell level. Not sure why I had assumed spell level instead of caster level. Makes PM much easier to access to, although I still find it weird...

PM in multiclass

I still have big problem with PM in multiclass. Right now, I do a F/W/PM:

First a few levels of F to get focus on unarmed hand, cleave and great cleave and WS. The reason for unarmed choice is PM oriented. Although I am not sure about the undead graft in PM. *

Then full length of W may be more.

In between is about 12 levels of PM.

The choice of W comes from the idea that PM will give more copies of a spell.

* From what I just looked up online, I still can use undead graft wielding a weapon.

The alignment shift has not been resolved comfortably. Just maybe it will work. :)

Well, you could've started with non-good to begin with, which would've mean you will not have the issue to begin with. Alternatively, you would create a dummy module an pop your character in just to drop his alignment away from good then import into the game (unless you're 1/2 way through a module).

Not sure if you can use it with a weapon (doesn't quite make sense that you can), but I do think that there is a limited number of times/day for all types of abilities from that hand, which kinda makes it a poor option (for me at least, since I need to choose those "boss fights" and guess what they're have that's really good (assuming that they're not immune)? :rolleyes: )

W/pm/f

I hope that the grafted arm will act as a spell when called for it, so I still can use a weapon. Otherwise I may have to multiclass with a monk, like W/PM/monk instead of W/PM/F.

Right now, I started with 3 levels of W, then immediately with 12 levels of PM. If I manage to get pass Desther, then things should get better in chapter 2. Gringnaw is going to get better and better.

The alignment shift still is a concern. For example, each report in the werewolf quest ( ch 2 ), shifts 7 points towards good.

BTW, I don't use modes. I rather drop this multiclass than using mode. Since I already have around 20 multiclasses to handle.

Your choice then :) but it will be a bit of a challenge to get the "good" results of various side quests without a similar alignment shift. I suppose you could always press for reward whenever the option is given; success or not, you will still be granted a few points towards evil for your greed and self-serving choice. Playing non-good characters carries that little bit of role-playing in doing quests.

My take on the PM is, even if you need to disarm to use your grafted abilities, they are limited to 2-3 per day, which means that if you take Fighter over Monk, coupled with your other arcane prowess, chances are you can simply sheath your weapon to touch your target, then redraw to continue your hacking.
