The Longest Journey, Caster style (spoilers)

Post by Lord-Sion »

Hey there, First post on this site, though i have been poking around here the last couple of years. Anyway i have a couple of questions for my run through with a Mage/cleric.

First of all this will be a solo run, With a Mage/cleric. The plan is to purely use spells to get through the fights, while still not using any cheese. No summons, no funky cloaks, No Potions, No Scrolls Of Protection, No staff of magi and i won't use any level 10 spells.

If i can't kill it with magic, i'll walk the other way.

If i can't kill it right now, i'll come back later.

Lower resistance, Lower resistance, Lower...

This is my mage ->

Name : Sion.
Gender : Human
Class : Mage / cleric multiclass.
Picture : Old school Edwin.
Sound : Default

Stats ->

Strenght - 11
Dexterity - 12
Constitution - 9
Intelligence - 18
Wisdom - 18
Charisma - 13

Weapon Proficiencies ->

* Quarter Staff
* Sling
* Two Weapon Style.

I didn't want any "Uber-stats" as i want the roleplay feeling, and the only + stats i'll take will be +1 wisdom, +1 intelligence from watchers keep (If i can get that far).

I used shadow keeper to change from elf to human, And my little pixel man looks like a Human male mage.

I am after a challenge, so i might add a mode or two to put up the difficulty.But what i am wondering is whom i can't kill with magic? I don't think you could lower resistance kangaxx? Any other foe you can't kill without magic? Also can you turn kangaxx with high enough cleric level?

I would like to end up with this equipment ->

Head - Circlet of Netheril.
Body - Robe of the neutral arch-magi. (Looks great!)
Hands - Bracers of Defence AC3.
Ring - Ring of Wizardry.
Ring - Ring of Acuity / Holy symbol (Possible to get for me as multi-class?)
Neck - Amulet of Power.
Waist - Belt of Inertial Barrier.
Feet - Boots of Speed.
Staff - Staff of Power / Staff of Curing. (No cheese staff!)
Back - Cloak of Protection.

So what do you think? Would it work? Any bosses i would have trouble with?

Edited : If it is possible to kill a boss, but requires an insane amount of luck on saves, Then i will sit hours untill s/he is dead and gone.

And finnaly, I won't take any member into my party at all. I will kill valygar to get to planar sphere. I am aiming on completing every possible quest, Even if i have to sit in watcher's keep summoning monsters for a couple of hours untill i hit the experience cap.

Spell Immunity: Abjuration -> Kangaxx imprisonment (Abjuration) ?

You will be able to get a holy symbol. Playing without level 10 spells won't make this game less cheesy, the lower level spells offer far more cheese.

Even with all those restrictions, you should have a pretty easy time completing the game.

Try not using any items at all and going with minimal stats.

Mhmm might be true, still some fights will be quite interesting. So what about kangaxx? Anyone know if its possible at all to poke him with magic?

If you can survive, Minute Meteors can damage him.

Why did you take two weapon style if you took q-staff and sling? For the cleric weapons?

Well, you can use Spell Immunity to protect yourself from his Imprisonment and the rest, well, you CAN use Melf's Minute Meteors or you can pummel him with some other weapons too. He only has fifty health and don't think of yourself as just a caster. You can fight better than any single class fighter type.

Its part of the challenge, want to see how far i get with magic. So i won't be hitting anyone or anything with my weapon.I could aswell have clean proficiencies but i ain't changing that in shadowkeeper. It makes sure i learn to save my spells effectivly so i don't run out, and that is why i wondered if kangaxx and any other creatures were immune to magic. Which would mean i won't go for them.
