Anyone Else Disappointed By the Ending? (Spoilers)
Anyone Else Disappointed By the Ending? (Spoilers)
I would hope the people who post here would have already completed the main storyline, but I'll warn you of any big spoilers here. Still, wait until you finished the main storyline before you read this.
1) I had no idea I was at the final battle when I was there. It was in my opinion WAY too easy.
***Spoiler Alert****
2) I'll admit, the ending sequence was a bit trippy, and I thought it was a great surprise when you let Lucien "finish" his speech. It made me go "what the hell...", but where the magic box comes into play makes no sense at all. It has nothing to do with the original wish. And I thought the heros were united to stop Lucien, and here he is using them? Other than fighting meekly during the final battle, and Garth using his magic to stop the shard, Hammer and Reaver really don't contribute anything unique in when it comes to facing Lucien. Or even the Great Shard. Really? The final boss battle is a piece of construction?
***End Spoiler***
3) You can't keep a house standing with a poor foundation. The first Fable paid off much better because there was mystery throughout, (what was Jack's plans, just who was your mother?) and things were not completely clear until right near the end. Even in the Lost Chapters, there was no knowing what Jack of Blades had done right up until you finally faced him. In this one, there is no grand mystery. Theresa appears (somehow 500 years old, no explanation on that one) says "you guys need to get together and kick ass" and they do, and Lucien's intent is clear right from the beginning. How are you supposed to build to a great ending based off the mundane?
Now I'm not going to say that this games sucks, because it really doesn't. The morality involved works great, the battles aren't too challenging, but still fun, and there really is a lot that can be done. But when it comes to the storyline, they should have spent some more time at the drawing board.

I'll agree that the storyline should of been worked with a little bit more.
I also think that they should of had more quests involved. My favorite
RPG of all time, is Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, so many quests.. So much
to do. It is literally Weeks, maybe months of quests.

personally, i think theresa set this whole thing in motion. i don't trust her.
we weren't going to get the magic box until she stepped in. theresa probably sold it to the vendor first. she already knew who we were and who lucius is supposed to be. she just provided the catalyst to put eveything in motion. we stop him and she gets to keep the spire.
seems awfully suspicious to me. if she actually cared about us (possibly being her great, great.... nephew/nieces), she would have taken us both to the gypsy camp and raised us to both be heros and stop lucius early. however, i think she needs the spire for fable 3 or something.
oops, now i am rambling.

she would go against us.

They made it fairly clear that there will be an expansion.
Examples(We will meet again hero, you can count on it.-Garth Also the last line in the book, "The Hero of Oakvale" Pretty much says that you decended from "The Hero of Oakvale", however, they never specificly say as such. Plus Theresa's abrupt change left the same sour taste in my mouth when I met J.o.B. So, back on topic. I kind of was disapointed at first, Fable 1 was hilarious, Fable 2 before time-skip, mundane.
Short answer, yes, but not greatly.

Actually at the end Theresa does mention that your ancestors were "The Archon" Who are the same people that created the sword of Aeons. I never really liked theresa, not even in the Fable I. I had the original not tlc and i always killed her, even if i was good. in tlc i didnt kill her cause i wanted Avo's Tear. But how can Theresa, [being what over three hundred years old] still be alive after you kill her in the original?Sain wrote:Examples(We will meet again hero, you can count on it.-Garth Also the last line in the book, "The Hero of Oakvale" Pretty much says that you decended from "The Hero of Oakvale", however, they never specificly say as such.

my opinion
well The creators of the game didn't really spend much time of the story. its not supposed to be a main story line then the game ends there's always more stuff to; do the game creators are still working on more stuff to online even!. I guess my point is the stuff you can do in the game like burn down towns, get STD's , get married so there's all ways something to do and the game creators spent more time on that sort of stuff than the actual story line.

I felt the storyline was too short and that they could've delved in to Theresa and many other things a whole lot more.
Of course the sandbox portion of the game is great, but at what cost? After I beat the game and ran around killing gargoyle's and collecting silver keys I got bored and never picked the game up again.
I feel the re-play value on this game is crap compared to Fable:TLC. I beat TLC at least 7 times. After playing Fable 2 once and got my gargoyle treasure I felt there was nothing more to do other than go through the boring storyline twice.

This might be alittle off topic, but am I the only one who thinks the Fable II Theresa might not be the same one from the first game? I admit it seems like too much of a coincidence for them not to be the same person.
On the other hand it seems imposible that they could be the same person.
Maybe the DC will have some answers, but for now I was wondering what others thought.

I'm thinking you're taking the "cut out the eyes" thing a little to literal. They simply could of meant they sliced her eyes. Instead of actually cutting them out. And if we even go as so far as in character development, don't the bandits seem impatient? Why take the few seconds extra to take them out when slicing them with one quick slash does the same damage? They even explained how she was able to live all those years. If they wanted you to think that it was someone else they would of made it clear so the players wouldn't get confused. She has all the same attributes as the original Theresa from fable 1. She can see the future, she has the same name, mentions details of the past that only someone who lived then would know, she even says that she hasn't been to oakvale for a few hundred years as you pass its ruins. I don't think they planned on having to spell it out for players since they made it rather obvious.
We're all going to die some day, I intend to deserve it.

Actually, it both Theresa and the Guildmaster specifically say her eyes were cut out. As far as the cutting acrossbeing quicker and easier than cutting out, it was Jack who was torturing Scarlett and Theresa, trying to find out about the boy. When torturing someone for information, the more slow and painful you make it, the more likely you are to get what you want.
The whole eyes thing is just one problem though. For one thing she'd have to be over six hundred years old. She could be immortal, but her mother and brother both aged. One of the books in the game says the Hero of Oakvale weilded the Sword of Aeons, the only way to get the Sword was to kill Theresa. There are a few other small things I won't go into here, but overall she just doesn't feel like the same character to me.
This game is full of nods to the original, but the lack of continuity is even jokingly referred to one of the loading screens. (the one about scholars making history up)
Maybe she is supposed to be the same charater, maybe not. But I think its fun to think about.

True it is fun to think about, but as far as the argument itself goes there's a little more to it then that. It also says that not many actually know what happen to their Hero through out his life. All they knew was that there was a sword and a Jack of Blades, thy didn't mention him wielding it. Also one of the game developers himself said the story was based off all the good endings. The whole point of the book saying he wielded the sword of aeons was to help fortify the background that the scholars didn't know what they were talking about since the guild was burned to the ground and all records of the Heros' history was lost. Just like you mentioned that loading screen of scholars just making things up. And because their in the same family doesn't mean they have the same powers. I never once saw whisper use any lightning based attack while I also never saw Thunder using assassins rush or charge. If the family thing was true all of Scythes family would be alive.

Lets not forget you have to open a culis gate to get to a distant land, and instead of being a prisoner you are the guard, enter a prison to rescue another hero. Yea they kinda re did the whole game.ShanDai wrote:It is blatantly obvious that it is the same Theresa, but many clues point in other directions.
Has anyone noticed how similar it is to Fable 1?
Your parents are dead, you have a sister, who then dies... You later get reunited with your sister near the end, then never see her again.

Opening the cullis gate like when you had to go to Hook Coast...
I'd say you are still a prisoner - you can't exactly escape until you freed your mother, like Garth, and killed a (sort of) boss. - Kraken, Commandant.
I would say that it is a similar storyline in terms of events:
You see your father get killed, you see rose get killed.
You do the Arena/Crucible.
As a result, you meet the bad guy of the game. JoB, Lucien.
You go to prison.
You partake in various events in order to rescue Mother, Garth so you can escape.
You face the big bad boss, and at least hold the ultimate weapon. Keep/destroy Sword of Aeons, Make your wish on the music box.
You sit through the credits, explore the world. Again. Again. Again...
I know I probably missed a lot out but it has been a while since I played through Fable.
Rather similar, isn't it.
Not identical, similar.
