As you can see, the Nameless One's old incarnation chose companions who possessed abilities that would give him an advantage when he went to the Fortress of Regrets to meet his Mortality. Deionarra possessed the ability to divine the future, so the Nameless One brought her along as a sentry. He was ruthless and cruel: he murdered her inside the Fortress of Regrets so that her spirit could see everything inside it forever. The Fortress is linked to the Mortuary by a portal, and it is probably through that portal that Deionarra appears inside the Mortuary. It would be more accurate to say that her spirit is still inside the Fortress of Regrets, but she can still communicate with the Nameless One through a spiritual link.
The Nameless One went to the Fortress of Regrets once before. His Mortality killed him and sent him back to Sigil with his memories erased so that he would never go back to the Fortress of Regrets again. The Nameless one took four companions with him on that fateful journey: the blind archer Zachariah who could "see" things ordinary people could not; Dak'kon, who wields a weapon shaped by *belief* (imagine if he could create an even more *powerful* weapon with his mind); Morte, who was supposed to have all the knowledge of the Pillar of Skulls but who lost it when he was removed from the Pillar; and Deionarra, who loved the Nameless One but was not loved by him in return.demigame wrote:1. why nameless one's girlfriend buried in Montuary?

The Nameless One has only limited immortality. His body regenerates whenever he is killed, as long as the damage is not catastrophic. But under some circumstances, he would not be able to regenerate. For example, his body could be destroyed by cremation. The Lady of Pain and Lothar are beings of immense power, and they could permanently destroy the Nameless One. He can also be killed with the Blade of the Immortal (a weapon forged by Coaxmetal), and he can even *will* himself to be nonexistent if he so desires.demigame wrote:2. why lady of pain can destory nameless one? is he supposed to immortality?
Why do you want to kill him? If you kill the two demons across the bar who claim to be the Nameless One's old friends, I've heard that Ilquix will drop his disguise. If Fall-From-Grace is in your party, she knows that he's a fiend, but she doesn't expose his secret. It might be possible to start a fight with him if you insult his chaotic beliefs, but I'm not sure. When I play, I usually don't get into fights unless I have to (with the exception of constructs inside the Rubikon and the respawning monsters in Under Sigil).demigame wrote:3. The Nameless One's Mortality does not want the Nameless One to be able to find him. Therefore, his Mortality kills everyone who might be able to provide any information to the Nameless One. That includes Ravel, Trias, and Pharod. His Mortality also sends shadows to kill the Nameless One himself so that he will get amnesia over and over. His Mortality believes that if the Nameless One loses his memory often enough, he will eventually lose his mind completely.demigame wrote:4.why shadows show up and kill Pharod?
Thanks VonDondu! you are a expert in this game.
3.i read the workthrough, i think i misunderstand 'have a brawl with Ilquix'.
5. so i guess nameless one is a normal human right ?
if he is a normal human, how could his mortality become so powerful ?
i also heard someone say he was a god in the begining ?
what is he seek for ? what is his desire?
he must seek for something and harm many people , so he regret for his past.
6. can you also tell me , why Ravel try to help namelessone, but attack him in the maze?

5. The Nameless one is.. Undead actually. He dies and then he stands back up. However in the beginning when he was still human he was an evil mage who commited a so terrible crime (you never know what it was, but there are hints throughout the game). The NO wanted to "fix" his mistake and found the hag Ravel. Ravel was in love with the nameless one and tried to to help him by a ritual that would make sure that whenever he died, he would live again, so that he would be able to "fix" his crime. However, the ritual failed and while the NO was immortal, he would always lose his memory when he died.
The game's most memoriable line "What can change the nature of a man?" implies to this. His regret changed the NO from evil to good.
"Hurrah for anarchy! This is the happiest moment of my life."

I finished this game quite recently as well and was under the ompression that the nameless one had infact been to the fortress of regrets several times before, once for each of the incarnations there? and that it was the practical incarnation who performed the deeds that are mentioned?VonDondu wrote:The Nameless One went to the Fortress of Regrets once before.
or did i get the wrong end of the stick there?

The Practical Incarnation was the first, and only, incarnation that ever breached the Fortress before you did. The Practical Incarnation didn't perform the deeds...the Good Incarnation was the original, and he was the one that committed the atrocities that were the justification for seeking immortality to try and avoid the penalty.

I'm not an expert, but I'm glad to help if I can.demigame wrote:Thanks VonDondu! you are a expert in this game.
The Nameless One started out in life as a normal human. He committed a terrible act of evil (we never find out what it was), and he knew that when he died, he would be doomed to fight in the Blood War forever as a punishment for his crimes. He believed that if could live long enough, he might be able to do enough good in the world to reverse his fate. So he asked Ravel to make him immortal. She succeeded in giving him the ability to rise from the dead if he was ever killed. She did that by removing his Mortality. Without his Mortality, he was no longer mortal. To appease the powers that demand a soul whenever a person is killed, another person dies in his place whenever he is killed. That person's soul becomes a Shadow. The Nameless One has died thousands of times, so that means that thousands of other people have died because of him. The Shadows don't really have a mind, but they hate him for what he did to them.demigame wrote:5. so i guess nameless one is a normal human right ?

Meanwhile, the Nameless One's Mortality is happy to be separated from the Nameless One. The Nameless One's Mortality wants to live a life of his own. He hates the Nameless One, and he is determined not to let the Nameless One find him.
However, there is a permanent link between the Nameless One and his Mortality. Every time the Nameless One learns something, his Mortality also gains that knowledge. Imagine for a moment how powerful a person could become if he could live for ten thousand years. The Nameless One has acquired tremendous knowledge and power in his various incarnations. Every time he died, he lost the power and knowledge that each incarnation had acquired. But the Nameless One's Mortality retained ALL of it. That's why the Nameless One's Mortality is so powerful. When the Nameless One merges with his Mortality at the end of the game, he must die and fight in the Blood War. But he regains all of the memories of his previous incarnations, and he becomes extremely powerful. That's why he is called the Transcendent One.
Ravel is extremely intelligent, and she knows more about the Planes than any other living creature. But she is also a bit "barmy", as they call it. Either way you look at her--a creature who is so powerful you wouldn't be able to understand her goals, or a creature who is so crazy you can't make sense of anything she does--it is difficult to say what she intended to accomplish. But we know that she loved to solve puzzles, and she was obsessed with the question, "What can change the nature of a man?" She challenged everyone she met to give her an answer, and she killed everyone who tried because she didn't like their answers.demigame wrote:6. can you also tell me , why Ravel try to help namelessone, but attack him in the maze?

Apparently, the Nameless One's original incarnation--the one who sought to become immortal so that he could make up for his terrible crimes--was a smooth talker, and he had something to offer to Ravel. He challenged her to solve the puzzle: how can a person become immortal? She actually fell in love with him, and she was happy to help him. So she made him immortal, in her own way.
Here's the confusing part. Ravel knew that the Nameless One's Mortality would try to kill her. The Nameless One's Mortality did not want the Nameless One to find him, so he set out to kill everyone who could tell the Nameless One how to find him. Ravel was at the top of the list. Apparently, Ravel tried to fake her death by pretending that YOU killed her. She attacked you so that you would fight back. But it didn't fool the Nameless One's Mortality, and he found her and killed her himself. It was a very strange encounter. (That was the first time we got to see the Nameless One's Mortality in the game.)
Ravel was trapped in the Maze by the Lady of Pain. Sigil is the hub of the multiverse with portals to all of the other Planes. The Lady of Pain ensures that the portals remain locked. That's why a lot of people call Sigil the "Cage". Ravel loved to solve puzzles, and to her, Sigil was one big puzzle she wanted to solve. She wanted to open all of the portals and "unlock the Cage". The Lady of Pain stopped her and punished her by confining her in a Maze. Inside the Maze, Ravel was cut off from all of the other Planes. She suffered greatly as a result of her confinement, and it weakened her. That's the reason why you had a chance to defeat her (and actually, you didn't defeat her--she only pretended to let you kill her).
I'm guessing that the Nameless One's Mortality was not able to reach her while she was inside the Maze, but once you "killed" her, he was able to reach her and kill her himself. But that's just speculation.
It has been a long time since I finished the game (I recently began playing it again). But as I recall, there is something special about that particular room that makes those three previous incarnations emerge from the Nameless One's mind and take physical form. ALL of the Nameless One's previous incarnations are submerged in his subconscious mind, but only three are strong enough to emerge: the Practical Incarnation (who breached the Fortress with Dak'kon, Morte, Deionarra, and Zachariah, but failed to subdue his Mortality); the Paranoid Incarnation; and the Good Incarnation (who is actually the original incarnation). Only the Practical Incarnation was able to find the Fortress. (Morte says, "He was the smartest basher I've ever known.") I don't think the Paranoid Incarnation even tried, but he wouldn't have had the necessary skills, anyway. And of course, the Fortress did not even exist when the Good Incarnation was alive.mcgregor wrote:I finished this game quite recently as well and was under the ompression that the nameless one had infact been to the fortress of regrets several times before, once for each of the incarnations there? and that it was the practical incarnation who performed the deeds that are mentioned?

(It took years for the Nameless One's mortality to construct the Fortress. As he explains, "I BUILT THIS FORTRESS WHILE YOU WERE DYING IN BAR FIGHTS AND CONTRACTING DISEASES IN SIGIL'S BROTHELS. THERE IS NOTHING I CANNOT DO.")
Your challenge was to make all of those incarnations merge with the Nameless One's consciousness.
This is also speculation on my part. I agree that the Transcendent One was not able to reach Ravel while she was Mazed, but was able to after the Nameless One *learned* how to enter the maze and spoke to her. This is probably why she fought with the Nameless One too...if the Nameless One thought she was dead, then she assumed the Transcendent One would not follow and attempt to kill her.VonDondu wrote: I'm guessing that the Nameless One's Mortality was not able to reach her while she was inside the Maze, but once you "killed" her, he was able to reach her and kill her himself. It is also likely why she stayed Mazed, and yet knew the exit: to protect herself from the Transcendent One.
