Ok, so I'm playing this kinda stealth-mage-char-thingy ( well maybe not as stealthy as i would like to fancy myself but anyhow ) I've been raiding most of he shops in merchants quater and so far the results have only been semi-satisfying, so I was wondering if any of you guyes could tell me where to strike if I wanted the jackpot?
Did I just roll 1 on a save vs. death? DANG! *>.<

You won't get any decent loot until you are at least lvl 6, though there are a few low-level magical items available right from lvl 1, mainly from little in-city quests.

Yeah, and your certainly not going to get any good out of the merchants. What you could do is either buy or sell something to a merchant, and then late at night, sneak into their shop and pickpocket them and you should either find the money you just spent, or the item you sold. Idk which one.

You should be finding decent stuff, then. There is still a lot of rubbish out there, mind you! But you should be finding enchanted items, glass weapons, ebony armour. Weapons and armour will mainly be on human enemies, as with enchanted weapons and armour, but some is in containers. Enchanted jewelry and clothes are sometimes found in containers.

Hello, Forum People!
Uh, there's a mod called "Thievery in the City" I think, that allows non-guild thieves to have fun as freelance thieves. It even comes with a nice bonus miscellaneous quest that takes you into the realm of a "snow globe"!

Then you haven't been thieving correctly. The game deliberately has tons of houses (main levels, upstairs, and basements) in each town compared to Morrowind, precisely because of the complaint that thieves had so little to steal outside Balmora. It's overstocked with goods you can grab. Some of it, in the display cases in merchants and in the guilds (at least half of the later; the rest being "historical reproductions") is first rate. It takes effort to get it, but it's really worth it.SevLives wrote:All you'll get off of merchents is pathetic stuff. Unfortunately the game is gimped for thieves. You need to kill people for the good stuff.
Note, if you're worried about guards, there's a mod called NoPsychicGuards that removes their ability to seemingly know everything, everywhere.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Clutter Inflation Mods!
Hello, Folks of the Forum!
I have a theory, that one category of "0 Value Gold" item, indicates that it is typically given to "Members Only", and not intended to be purchased by the "average bear" or anyone else, but instead has to be earned by obtaining a membership in that faction. The second category, applies to items with a price less than 1 gold, but as you can't get change in the non-modded game, they simply label them as having "0 Value Gold". The third would be stuff actually deemed worthless, like say a wadded up piece of parchment. (As they haven't invented recycling yet in the non-modded game.)
However some modders have dealt with that by making mods that assign a gold value to said clutter and members only clothing, except for the Blades and Arena Blue Team Armor, thus far. So the Black Robe and Hood are now worth 40 Gold, the Mythic Dawn kit is now enchanted and worth 400 gold. Jugs, cups, etc, are worth one Septim. Bedrolls and torches may now be picked up and sold, even candles. Anyway, to make this short, there are several mods like those that help thieves by assigning a value to what was or is just "useless clutter" or junk in the non-modded game.
I've found these to be helpful in boosting sales to fences very quickly and also to help feed my need to leave no item in a cave behind. One mod though, conflicts, as it allows Skulls and Bones to be ground into Bonemeal as long as you have at least a Novice Pestle & Bowl (?), so they retain a 0 Gold Value, otherwise they were given a Septim value too. I tested the one that allows you to also grind gemstones for new potent alchemy affects, but it conflicted with the quests that require gem stones.
