After a couple of weeks of drooling over the game case at work with glossy, gore-hungry eyes, I figured that I would finally venture out and start inquiring about this title.
Since this is a predominantly RPG site with posters who frequent that genre, I would hope that I at least get some input from people who aren't necessarily shoot-em-up buffs. My understanding is that Dead Space is an excellent games in terms of a FPS, but has anyone ventured in to it yet? Having read reviews that rave about the constant requirement to adapt to the evolving gameplay I admit I am intrigued, but even so I'm reluctant to buy into the hype. I learned my lesson with Bioshock.
I guess I'm in the midst of a deflowering stage when it comes to your shooter games, having barely stumbled through some of Half Life 2 and haven't so much as shot a bullet in FEAR yet. Have managed to grit my teeth through a couple of titles that required the immediate purging of an enemy's frontal lobe from their skull, but I need story content. At least something cohesive to keep my interest. Can anyone vouch?

Well, I've also heard of it, but haven't played it yet. The reviews I've read so far gave it a lot of praise but at the same time, most of them echo the same complaint, that is the repetitiveness of the missions and awkward close combat mechanic.Shesau wrote:My understanding is that Dead Space is an excellent games in terms of a FPS, but has anyone ventured in to it yet? In terms of hype, I don't think this game was hyped that much compared to games like Spore, Resident Evil 5, Fallout 3 and Mass Effect to name a few but, the same as you, I'm also leery of games surrounded with a huge amount of publicity. Also bought Bioshock and find it rather disappointing compared to other shooters like the Half Life series and FEAR to name a few.
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

The game is innovative. What makes this game good is
you need to know how to kill the monster you are
fighting, you cant just randomly shoot stray bullets at
your enemy, you need to know what is his weak part.
I've seen previews were the player shot the monster in
both his arms, and its arms fell off. But it kept coming
forward at him until he shot it in the head. They all got
weaknesses.

That was kind of the vibe I was getting too, particularly on more critical forums on which players generally agreed that the gameplay was a bit repetitive, though I was assured the setting was enough to counteract the redundancy. Assassin's Creed taught me that I can stand doing the same thing over and over so long as there is at least some semblance of a plot.DesR85 wrote:The reviews I've read so far gave it a lot of praise but at the same time, most of them echo the same complaint, that is the repetitiveness of the missions and awkward close combat mechanic.
I thought Mass Effect was worth the hype. *blush*
But as for each creature requiring a different method to be killed, I'm a bit leery to call that innovative. Maybe a bit more strategy is involved for survival, but if that's the game's main selling point then I may just wait until I see this one second-hand. I'll get it eventually I'm sure, but there are plenty of good FPSs out there to tide me over until then.

the creature and it still will attack you. By the way, if you cant stand
doing the same thing over, and over. I advise you to get fable 2, there
are quite a phew things to do, work on skills like blacksmith, bartender, woodcutting, etc.. Buy houses, fix them up with good furniture, rent
them out.. basically everything revolves around each other so you
aren't always doing the same thing, you can.. but you wont be
successful in the game.
