Can't proceed from Durlag's Tower Catacombs Level 1! Help!!!

I picked up everything that's needed (mallet head, mallet handle, engine switch, and grapes). Then when I went to the forge, sword, engine, or wine press, nothing happens. It doesn't matter which character I'm using, or if the whole group is in the room or not, or who holds the items, it just won't work. For example, when I click on the forge, it just keeps giving me a message saying that its a forge, but it won't actually put the mallet together. Same thing at the engine, when I click where the switch is supposed to go, it just tells me there is a switch missing, even though I have the switch in my inventory. What the heck is going on?

Okay, I downloaded and installed the TotSC patch and tried again. This time I was able to activate the machine, make the wine, forge the mallet, and strike the gong. Then I went to talk to the sword, but nothing happened. When I went to tell talk to the wardens, the only one that accepts my completing it is the guy who wants the shiny blue gem. The guy on the bottom right says that I have what he wants, but I need to speak to his brothers first. The other 2 don't respond at all. Any suggestions guys? I'm so close to the end of the game (and this is my first time playing it through), I don't want to abandon it now.

Have you got any mods installed?

You could try moving your save games to somewhere else on your pc, reinstalling the game then moving the saves back again as it could be a faulty installation.

No mods. And I tried reinstalling it, once with the totsc patch, and once without. The only difference is what I mentioned in the second reply there.

If you are hidden or invisible, the sword won't activate.
With the grapes, sometimes you have to go back with the handle again after trying to process the grapes. These might not be the answer, but it's worth trying just in case.

Thanks for the help, but I went and deleted the game. Can't stand games when they glitch like that. Just wasn't worth the trouble.

If the problem was that you were invisible, it isn't a glitch. It's deliberate. It cannot see you, so it doesn't know that you are there, so it won't speak to you.
