SoZ Quest Help (SPOILER)

So the female merchant in the Openpalm bazaar in Samargol said I can buy a talking parrot (for Volo's quest) at the "black market southeast of Samargol".

I presume this means the Underdark black market with the mindflayers, but I can't get any of them to sell me a talking bird. There are no dialogue options and it is not available from their "stores".

Am I missing something?

She she'll give you the parrot for an interesting animal you can buy on black market (not necessarily a parrot). You are supposed to buy some sort of snake (IIRC), take it back to her and in exchange she'll give you the parrot.

One of the Mindflayers needs a quest before you can purchase from him.

BTW, that is NOT the only way you can get an animal - one of your skill sets (search, lore, etc. - don't remember), will find, (assuming its somewhat skilled - over 5 or so), a suitable animal slightly north of your base town. (..across the bridge and marginally north west of there into the trees.)

buy the caged snake from Xor, the mindflayer you don't need to quest for first. I don't know why I was missing it.
