TG quest: grand battle in IC elven garden - should this happen?

Post by silverdragon72 »

directly after getting the "ultimate heist" quest, just when leaving the house, without any obvious reason a medium battle between several members of the TG and the guards starts in the IC elven garden destrict...

...as several members of the TG and even passing by citizens where killed in this battle and I'm not sure if any of them are relevant for any further quests, I reloaded several times but the same thing happens again and again...

...should this happen?!

...or did someone made the same experience?

Could there be any quest relevant NPC get killed?!

This should not happen, unless intended
There is nothing you can't do, at least if you have enough patience to keep trying.

I've seen similar things happen, though not in that particular place & time. Usually it happens when you have a bounty, the guards try to arrest you, and fellow TG members (and sometimes other NPCs with a high disposition toward you) come to your aid. Unfortunately, your friends don't get the option to pay a fine and they don't yield in combat, so their insistence on fighting to the death inevitably leads to a bloodbath.

Something Similar has also happened to me. I had made a character with the intention of complteting every mission in the game (most of the time, Im not careful with my characters and kill off, not usually directly, some NPC's important to a quest). I only had a handfull of missions left, and I had entered the Temple District in IC, and a large brawl began. Half of the residents were killed (some attacked the gaurds, others attacked me), and among them were the witnesses critical to the Unfriendly competition quest. I hadn't started that mission yet, and completely forget their need from previous characters games and carried on and saved over that point later. When I got to that part, it was too late to reload to a previous point, leaving the quest unfinishable. It irked me a little, but it was also kinda funny, plus it has caused me to create multiple saves in every game I play, which is a positive.
Hindsight is 20/20.

...was a strange situation and reproducable. I tried it several times to understand, what and why this happens - but I didn't find any clues. Btw. my character had no bounty and he wasn't involved in this fight in any way.

TG members attacked the guards without any obvious reason, just seconds after I left the house where I get the ulitmate heist quest.

A few seconds later the TG members had summoned several daedroth and daedric armor and weapons.

First I thought this was some kind of MQ related ambush on IC, (spoiler ahead) like the one later in the MQ...

...but after some testing, it was absolutely clear that there was none of the bad guys involved nor there was any pick-pocketing or other reason for this fight!

With the info that this should not happened, I managed to avoid this fight after several tries, entering IC-EG-D from another gate at another point of time and for some reasons nothing happened!

About That Brawl...

.... I've had that happen before too. I thought it was maybe because the guards somehow learned that the Gray Fox was in that house, and so his loyal guild fights them off. (I've seen that happen when my character was the Gray Fox, hence my retrospect.) Sometimes out of curiosity, I let it play out just to see what happens. But other times, I put a stop to it by reloading.
But now that I know that it shouldn't happen, I'll be more wary about it from now on. So, thanks for the insight! :)
Shhh! Be very quiet! I may be sleep writing and sleep reading!

I just remembered another probable cause of these kinds of brawls - friendly fire accidents among NPCs. One time on the waterfront a Mythic Dawn sleeper agent came after me, and a gang of 7 or 8 neighbors and imperial guards all instantly ran to my defense. The Mythic Dawn agent never even got close to me, but in the fray somebody must have hit somebody they shouldn't have. Next thing I know it's like the song - "man in the back said everyone attack and it turned into a ballroom blitz". The fighting eventually stopped but there was a nice pile of bodies and the waterfront now appears to be a permanent danger zone because I can't wait or fast travel unless I go inside my house.

Most NPCs required for the main quest and faction quests are marked as "essential" in the game, so they'll just be knocked unconscious instead of dying when their health drops to 0. However, numerous NPCs required for miscellaneous quests are not marked "essential". So bottom line, the answer is yes.
