I think this thread is probably going to get moved...
But in the meantime.. two suggestions, from both the past and the near future.
Dragon Age is coming out sometime in the new year/spring and it looks quite promising.. story-based, dark and gritty.
Or, if you can find it, since it is an old game, I'd highly recommend Planescape Torment.
