Gonna start playing this game for the first time, some questions..

Post by Jeantjuh »

So I just finished up on Planescape Torment for the first time (one of the best RPG's evah!) and now I'm looking for another game to fill my RPG needs.

So I'll probably start on playing Arcanum, however I wouldnt know where to begin on character creation. I usually play the persuader so I wouldnt know how to spend my points on stats and such. Just want to be able to persuade everyone I encounter to see most out of the game. :)

I read that you can choose between being a techy (guns and such) or become a mage or fighter. Any suggestions here?

Thanks!

I'd recommend going mage, because tech oriented character is a lot harder and complicated to play, and I think mages are more powerful. If you want to be a persuader you should invest some points in CH during creation, and add some more as you progress through game (keep track how many points of CH you need to put another point in persuade, you won't need more than that). Also invest in WIS I think you need it for spells as a mage so you can progress to more powerful ones. Maybe a bit of EN because you need stamina for casting spells. And stamina regeneration.

Thanks for the tips!

Any suggestion on how to distribute my points in character creation? For both mage and gunslinger?

Ah bah. Arcanum is easy. You can create powerfull tech or magic chars, or mix up both things and become even more powerfull ;)

First of all, you should use the Unofficial Patch and the High-Res-Patch, wich make the game better to play: fewer bugs and better overview.

If you play Arcanum the first time, spend some points in CH, get some followers and put points in Dodge (every char should use this) and meele (the easy way of killing enemies). Then the game should be very easy.

If you like powergaming it is easy to create chars that can run alone through the game and kill everything in a few moments, also there are chars that can solve the game without killing anything :)

Is the high-res patch included in the unofficial one? And how high can the resolution be set? Hope I'm not too much of a trouble, just want to get it all right in one go. ;)

Np :)
The normal resolution is 800x600, with the patch it is 1024x768. And it is not includet in the UAP. Drog said, that it woudn't work with the last UAP, but some tested it and it worked ... so.
I use the latest german version (equal to the next to the last english one) of the UAP and it works fine with the high-res-patch. Don't know if this is correct english *g*.
