Little to late...

Post by Demortis »

Former Nazi camp guard charged with 29,000 counts of accessory to murder for his time as a guard at the Nazis' Sobibor death camp

Now, dont get me wrong, Im all for Justice, but the guy was a guard... And his case is turning into a "witch hunt"... He's 88yrs old. What are they going to do, give him the Death Sentence? He's already lived his life. Not much punishment there. Don't get me wrong I thought what had happend in the Holocaust was terrible. But he was just a guard...

Anyways, light spam, you know the drill.

Well, there are those that would say, "Better late than never!"

What if this were about pleasure rather than punishment? What if he was 88 and had never had sex but always wanted to do so. Finally some one comes along to give him some. But then someone else says he's too old for rewards, and has had his chances already. It's too late to reward him now!

I'd say it isn't to late to reward him now. So why so for punishment?

There's no statute of limitations on homicide, including being an accessory, at least here. I think it applies to genocide too after WWII ended.

Ah, never mind. Following up to this will distract me. :(
Shhh! Be very quiet! I may be sleep writing and sleep reading!

at 88 years old, its unlikely he'll live another 5-10 years. add to that prison conditions and theres no point spending the time to check him in.

theres no point in this trial, its like punishing one of lex luthors henchmen 50 years after lex dies.
She's got a smile that, it seems to me, reminds me of childhood memories, where everything is as fresh as the bright blue sky.

Letting Him Get Away With It?!

Like the Old West huh? If you hide out just long enough, maybe the possy will tire out, and you can come out and play again.

Anyway, I was thinking before. It seems to me that people that ponder this are those too young to think about what it must be like to be old, and don't realize that old people can value their own lives, even if you as a youth don't value them any. Or you are old too, and you've done a crime, and that you're hoping to die without getting caught.

Otherwise, what's to ponder? If he did the crime, he needs to pay for it. Unless he's suicidal, he's probably hoping not to be executed any time soon. He's probably wishing that his record of getting away with it could've lasted longer than it did.

It isn't like what he did was a misdemeanor or a traffic violation!

I want to read more about the circumstances and background of the story before saying too much. But, I have always questioned the argument against punishing somebody who has committed atrocities simply because they are "too old." Being old doesn't suddenly negate who you are as a human being. It doesn't automatically mean that you suddenly bear no responsibility for your past actions.
Old age should not be a determining factor when judging crimes of this magnitude; those who perpetrated them should be held accountable.

"Just a Guard"

Do you have any idea at all what the role of guards was in the Nazi concentration camps? We aren't talking about a department store rent-a-cop here...

Whoa... this guy has to answer for something if he was a willing Nazi guard.:speech:

Letting people off the hook because of age will give an extra incentive to hide from the law for as long as possible.

It's also morally ugly, to say the least. Nazi guards certainly didn't care if their victims were old. :(

In full agreement here. it does not say if this guy was SS but if he was then he is even more monstrous. Being a bloodthirsty monster was only one of many prerequisates to being SS. As it is, being"just a guard" involved participation in the treating of human beings in ways most people do not condone for livestock. It is actually unfortunate that he is in no phydical condition to endure the punishment he actually deserves for very long; to be treated in exactly the same way he treated his prisoners.

Its been awhile since I had last done research on them. But the guy might not even live to the of next year... They were also tryin to blame other insidents on him... I just think that the law might out to try and squeeze the last bit of blood from this rock, ya know. He should be punished, but it should reflect the actions. Since so many died by crude gas chambers. GAS HIM!
