Cannot use magic! ???

I have several magic abilities, but I cannot use them. I place them on the quick-access bar at the bottom, but they are always grayed-out. What is wrong?!

I used to be able to use them, but not anymore.

Help!

You can't use magic if you have any metal armor equipped, shields are usually okay, but chainmail, gloves, greaves, boots, bracers, helmets made of metal (i.e steel/bronze) disable your spells. Leather armor is fine, but so long as you have the fastness of body spell, heavy armor is not really needed for a spellcaster.

Metal shields will also disable casting (with the exception of the "gold" armor shield). The Thorwalian Round shield, leather shield, and buckler can be used by magic casters, IIRC.

Makes the game a litle bit more interesting now, I guess. Gotta find some leather armor!
