Please help a BG dummie.....

Post by Junipur »

The dummie is me :)
I found BG at a second hand store last year, but only the cd´s not the cover or any kind of information, so I have played the game using the trial and error method for a while now.
The party I had came the furthest with has just died, from being poisoned by Lothander, and I had just saved about 10 seconds before, so yesterday I started a new party, wich right now is made up by my PC, Molly, Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Garrick and Minsc (and Boo :) )
I never knew I could have Garrick join the party, so this is the fist time I have a bard in the party, and I can not figure out what the bard song does.
Do I have to use it on enemies, or on my party members ?
We are currently looking for Dynehair at the Gnoll Strongehold, and I know from experience that if we do not find her, then Minsc will leave, and I want him to stay with the party, so can someone please help me find her, because I can not find any way to get into the stronghold...........
I have been everywhere, I have found 3-4 caves with Xvartz in them, and I have killed about a ton of Gnolls on top of and around the building, but I can not find anyway to get into it, I really need some help................

Please use these maps to find the stronghold:
Baldur's Gate @ GameBanshee
Baldur's Gate @ GameBanshee
Basically all you have to do is keep leaving the areas on the south and west sides, you'll find it.

Bard song is a buff to your party.
"Bard song: This is possible by Bards – the bard character
will begin playing a song, which continues until any action
other than movement is selected for that bard. While the
song is playing, the party morale and luck is higher. (Luck
decreases attack rolls and damage caused by enemies)."

Since you do not have any documentation, you may want to check out:
replacementdocs: Downloads / PC (DOS/Windows) / Baldurs Gate
Sage plays a paladin,
because other classes would be frowned upon for laying their hands on a wounded companion

Bard song is a buff but bear in mind that using any attacks with the bard will cancel the bard song buff ... if you use the bard song (which I have to add is a powerful buff so often you don't notice you are fighting with one less character when using it) then I usually keep my bard slightly back out of harms way but close enough for his party members to benefit from the buff.

I've dismissed bard song so many times in the past as I didn't like the idea of not using that character to attack, but in a recent game of IWD (which uses the same game mechanics pretty much as BG) I used a bard and for most of the fights he did nothing but cast the odd spell and use his songs in battles, and I felt many battles were easier than they were with previous parties that I used.

Thank you for the link to the manual, that will be very helpfull :)
I think you misunderstood my other question, I know where the stronghold is, I have been there, all over the place, but I can not find any doors/caves that leads inside, so I can free Dynahair ?

So you're looking for Dynaheir? Highlight for spoilers:
Spoiler
As you get off the bridge, take the second right north on the screen, up the steps. She should be in the second room to the right, at the bottom of one of the pits. You will probably need to click and send somebody down each to find anyone at the bottom.

Duuhhh, I thought I had to go inside the building, did not know I could go down there............... :o

That bard song sounds really neat, but I tried it out last night, but I am not sure I am doing it right.
When I choose it, the sword appears, so do I click it on one of the enemy characters, or on one of my party characters ?

Once you activate bard song you don't need to do anything else. Its a passive buff so any party members near the bard will get the buff. If you then click to attack with your bard, the bard song will be cancelled and thus you will lose the buff effect.

Here is another question :)
The Red Sheaf Inn in Beregost, I always assumed it was just put there to create athmosphere, but now I can see from the walk trough that you are supposed to get inside the building, but how do you do htat ?
I can get into the Burning wizard to the left, and to the commoners house on the right, but there are no doors into the Red Sheaf itself, no way of entering the building at all, so how do I do it ?

Check around both sides of the building with your mouse, until the pointer becomes a door. ;)

I have done that several times now, and the only 2 doors I can find, is the ones to the commoners house to the right, and to the Burning Wizard to the left.
I have had 4 different parties in Beregost, and I never knew I could go in there, because there is no door, at least none that makes the pointer become a door too.
Can anyone tell me where this supposed door is, maybe then I can find it ?

You can't actually see the door, its around the right hand side - if you move your mouse cursor up the right hand side you should see it turn to a door icon, the door itself though is completely hidden by the roof on that side.
