Interpreting the enemy hit point bar.

Can anyone tell me how the hitpoints bar works on the bottom of the screen when you attack an enemy on Dungeon Lords Collector's Edition?

The number that you see is how much damage you are doing. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell you how much HP they actually have and, short of adding the damage you've done to take an educated guess, I'm not aware of a good way to find out.
