So I'm a mage doing the join-the-fighters-guild-quest and I have just given the sword to the guild guy in the elven "city". I now have the option to add the second tier fighter classes BUT my char sheet still only has the mage class icon and my learning costs haven't changed! (ie, it still costs the same to train light weapons for example).
So when do the learning benefits kick in??? Or, is there a bug here? Or am missing something?
When do you get the benefit of 2nd class?
That's odd. IIRC, completing the initiation quest should have given you the tier 1 fighter class. What happens if you accept a quest for a tier 2 class?

Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

That has happened to me before - more than once - because I used the game editor while the class quest was active. The easy fix is to use the editor again to add the fighter class to your character. That should (though I can't be certain - I never really paid attention) give you the appropriate bonuses. If you find that it does not, then use the editor (again) to remove the fighter class, and reset the quest so you can do it again (it isn't a big deal to run back to Fargrove to restart the quest, and back to Aryndale to complete it again).
Thanks for the replies!
Yes, I had used the editor. I'd originally gotten the mage heraldry from the fortune teller, but then died when I forgot to pause when getting coffee! When I reloaded and revisited her, I got the thief one, hence editor.
Using the editor to add fighter class *reset* xp to current advancement points (which was only 2000)!!!!!! Arrrgh!
Eventually, I found that when I copied-pasted xp into *advancement points* in editor, then reloaded said character in editor, he had both the correct xp AND the correct 2000 advancement points!!!!!!!
Weird! But working!
