Character build up and the Shrouded Hills.

Post by Falk »

Hello. I've just recently started playing Anarcum, and after alot of failed characters I've found one I like. But just now I've realized he can't kill anything as he always misses. He's a blacksmith focused on weapons and armor, but he's not very great at handling any kind of weapon. I just miss whenever I try to hit anything, be it a sewer rat or a goblin, doesn't seem to make any difference. Right now Virgil is doing the killing, but he's not much of a fighter either. So my question is, how exactly should I build up my character to have a decent fighter aswell as a talented blacksmith? Should I spend more points in melee and strength? Right now I've increased Intelligence, smithing skills and health, but I'm starting to think I've made a few mistakes here and there. Some advice would be much appreciated.

Now to my second question, I've just arrived in the Shrouded hills and I've taken a few quests. The ones I'd like to finish the most are the one from Jongle, where he tells you to destroy the steam machine, and the one where you rob the bank.

I've made it to the steam engine, where I found a dwarf. I told him about the situation but he wont listen to me and now I can't converse again. I've tried destroying the steam engine, but whenever I click on the Control Console nothing happens. Do I need some kind of an item/skill to destroy it? I've also tried killing the dwarf, didn't help either.

And about the bank quest, I'm not sure how I should go about robbing it. I've tried killing the bank owner, but I fell in a few seconds without even giving her a scratch. So that's not an option. I don't have any lockpicks or any skills in thieving, so I'm not sure I can try and pick the lock to the vault. Some help would be great!

Thanks.

Melee and DEX are the combat stats you need. Melee determines your to hit chance, and DEX determines how high your melee skill can get, and it determines your action points in a round, the most important resource. STR is nice for damage, and carrying.
To start out, you're better off focusing on 2 points in melee and 10 or so DEX. Increase melee to 3 ASAP. That should give you a solid hit chance.
Destroying the steam engine isn't really in-character for a blacksmith generally, but you accomplish this by ALT-leftclicking on the engine, or putting some explosives next to it. This will anger the dwarf, though.
You can rob the bank after you've helped Doc Roberts protect it from the robbers. Just choose the "Reach for the sky" dialogue option when talking to the bank-clerc. I suppose sneaking and lockpicking works as well.

Also just spend 2 points into blacksmith, more points are not worth because you will get much stronger armors and weapons without blacksmith.
Even the Balanced Sword can be powerful at the beginning.

Perhaps you can invest two(?) points into electric to get 2 charged rings, they will push your dex (2x2) :)

And don't set too many points into strength it's not worth.

Actually, once you get the heavier armours, STR *is* worth it. A heavy load slows you down, which means less action points. But only worry about STR after DEX, Melee and Dodge.

Thanks guys. I made a new character and I'm having a blast with it. I'm lvl 27 now, with full Melee, Dodge and Picklocking, I've yet to find a master trainer though. I'm doing quite well, I can now kill almost any creature, the only thing I'm having a hard time with is traps. The Black Mountain Mines took me nearly 2 hours to finish cause I had to stop and let Virgil get mana so that he could heal me all the time. I guess "Spot Traps" is my next skill to master.

Spot Traps is a waste. Don't put points in it. Better to take some mana potions to feed Virgil.
