To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Just sell it to the armoror in mournhold. The lady. She has 10,000 and is alot easier to find than the mudcrab. Sell the expensive item and buy a whole lot of other fairly expensive itmes at the same time, most notable the glass armor she starts with. Buy enough stuff to get her offer to go down to say 7,000 (this will vary depending on your mercentile skill). Then hit max sale and offer. IF she refuses the offer hit offer a bunch more times and she may accept. If not click canel because by now she will like you very little. Then click on her and try again. Also, i'd persuade her with 100 gold until she likes you 100/100. Do this with all merchants you will either use alot or make a large deal with. And also do that with anyone who you will train alot from. Anyway, after you make that deal then wait a day. Then sell her back the other stuff you bought in as large of groups as you can. Note: it may take a few days of waiting if you have alot to sell.

Very true, though he may not have Tribunal, and may not have visited Mournhold yet, if he does.

So let me put up this link to the Creeper. Only 5,000 gold, but exceptionally easy to find in vanilla Morrowind, without expansions.

And thanks for adding the Mournhold suggestion.

If it's worth that much it'll usually be an artefact or at least unique. I suggest keeping it. They can be extremely useful. Just stash them somewhere so you don't have to carry them around such as your stronghold if you have one.

Or... if you are on PC, you could install this mod. (requires both expansions)

It is listed as a cheat, which doesn't seem entirely accurate to me. What it does is increase each merchant's cash by 10. It would be a cheat if it added a creature merchant with about 2 million gold, since creatures give full value... this mod seems a bit more reasonable though.

@ML,
actually... there are all kinds of generic glass, ebony and daedric weapons worth those high sums... daedric katanas are around 50 K, for example.

There are also changes you can make to the construction set. It would be cheating, but there's nothing saying that you actually have to exploit it once you change it, you could just use when absolutely necessary.
This is probably the easiest method of earning money, so if you want to earn your money fair and square don't bother.
BTW, no-one ever mentions this, but there is a regular old merchant in morrowind with 9000 to spend. You can find him in the Zainab Camp,
south-south-west of Vos. He is also the master trainer for mercantile I think, but I may be wrong.
