Help with a boss fight *spoilers, obviously*
I'm in the Hallowbrook Hotel trying to fight the Sabbat leader, but I just can't beat him. I'm a Malkavian and I use melee weapons, so the only way I can hurt him is to get close enough for him to hit me, and one hit from him takes off about a fourth of my health. How the hell am I supposed to kill this guy? I don't have any blood packs either.
Try hitting the crap out of him with one of the torches that should be laying around there. Fire is a good choice against vampires and the flame thrower would have been the ideal 5-second solution.
'..tolerance when fog rolls in clouds unfold your selfless wings feathers that float from arabesque pillows I sold to be consumed by the snow white cold if only the plaster could hold withstand the flame then this fountain torch would know no shame and be outstripped only by the sun that burns with the glory and honor of your..'
This boss is not that hard to beat, wait until you face Ming Xiao (although she's also pretty easy if you know what to do).
Anyway, I've recently played the game with a Malkavian. I usually don't spend even a single XP on any defense related feat by this point so I'm pretty likeable to be injured bad by any attack. You must use Blood Buff to raise your attack and defense, and you should use the Tal'Mahe'Ra blade (which was in a room at the highest floor on this hotel). Don't think about using offensive disciplines on him, he's pretty resistant to magic.
Keep Blood Buffing and slashing, and remember to use the Odious Chalice if you have it (and if it has blood, of course).
Good luck.

But how am I even supposed to hit him without getting killed? The whole point of this was that if I'm going to try to hit him, he WILL hit me at least once. This takes off about a fourth of my health, killing me in four hits. How am I supposed to survive that? I can't dodge his hits if I'm going to hit him, and he kills me in four hits, which isn't nearly enough time to kill him.

It would help if we knew what weapons you had, if you're running the unnoficial patch as well as what clan you are.
“The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially.”
Hmmm... maybe you forgot to equip your armor after you bought it, press F3 to check which one you're wearing. By this point you should have the second-best armor in the game, which you can buy from Tseng in Chinatown.Mythos1092 wrote:But how am I even supposed to hit him without getting killed? Blood Buff will raise your Stamina attribute to 5 (and thus your Defense feat).
This boss will still hit you more than four times and that's almost unavoidable. If you're still having problems consider loading a game-save just before entering Hallowbrook, fill up on blood packs, make sure you have the Odious Chalice (if it's empty you can easily fill it up fighting in Hallowbrook).
You shouldn't waste your blood packs through Hallowbrook, if you need blood or health you can suck the blood from the enemies wearing hoods (almost all of them have knives as weapons). And remember that there are some blood dolls (those guys without eyes) in the hotel, you can dry them of blood until you kill them and you won't be penalized.
Now go play and leave a message here when you have succeeded.

I'm wearing body armor. I didn't forget to equip it. Considering how I'm Malkavian, it's fairly easy to notice when I don't have it equipped considering how it's a massive white fur coat with a ridiculous hat. I'm running the unofficial patch and using a katana, I never found that sword that should have been earlier on. The problem with getting more blood packs is that I'm completely out of cash. I tried not to use blood packs while in Hallowbrook, but there aren't always the hooded guys available. There were times I had to use them because there just weren't any hooded guys there. I'm considering just starting over and playing a ranged character, I checked out the fight with the Sheriff and I'm guessing that if I can't do this then that fight is going to be impossible.

You have to learn to read your opponent's moves and utilize your disciplines.
Use Auspex to increase your defense as well as ranged skill.
Use Obfuscate for the purpose of dealing burst damage.
Use your trademark discipline to inflict damage and to lower Andre's effectiveness.
In all my time playing, I don't think I've ever used blood packs.

The flamethrower is a HUGE help in this fight, and you can find one in one of the upper floors of the hotel (same floor as the sword mentioned earlier). Mercurio will be selling it too as well by this point. A tank and a half or so of fuel will take Andrei out, no problem
Also, and I didn't realize this my first few times through, you can run across the red water/blood/whatever that he swims in. So you're not as restricted in where you can move as it might seem initially.
He hits you a couple of time then dives, use those few seconds to use a blood pack if you have any. You definitely want to stock up on those before you head into the hotel, esp blue blood packs.

I hate it when my food name-drops.
In addition to the flamethrower there is another easy and painless way to defeat this guy: remember the platform you are standing on when you enter this room? Well, after exiting the dialog just turn around, run back and jump back onto the platform, and then take your time shooting him with your favorite firearm.
I've done this numerous times and he's only managed to jump on the platform once. Be aware that he hits you with a red energy blast in an attempt to knock you off, but as long as you are centered on the platform with your back to the wall you should do fine.
I wish the first battle with this guy was this easy.

I played this battle last night and also found the Dragon's Breath gun (only in the Plus unofficial patch) to be very useful also at close range. While he's burning he won't move, and he'll stay put long enough for you to reload and fire a couple more shots, etc. He was up on the platform and I was down right below him and it worked out quite well.
Also a tip for the first battle with him: hop on top of the table in the corner (far left as you come down the stairs). His demon pets won't be able to reach you and you can empty your gun into him as he moves around the room. You can wait till he gets close if you want to save ammo. There's two places he comes up that are very near the table.
