Patch 1.10
Posted: Wed Jun 25, 2003 6:36 am
To start off my new Mod-status in this forum, I thought it was apt to post summary of what is known about the long awaited 1.10 patch. This summary is brief, but should be accurate since I got the information from the Blizzard fan-chat and various official statements at their website.
1. Ladder
A new ladder system will be introduced, and there will be ladder-only characters which cannot play with non-ladder characters. There will be ladder-only items and ladder-only Horadric cupe recipies. Ladder chars will compete from equal start, in seasons. After the season they will be just like normal chars.
2. Monsters
Hell difficulty will be harder. Monster loose their 50% physical resistance and the dimish in life-leach that follows from that, will also be removed. Instead, monster will be faster, have more hitpoints, more varied abilities and restistances and they will spawn more randomly, especially in Act V. Boss monsters and monster of types not previously seen in an area, will now spawn randomly. Secret Cow level is made more difficult too.
3.Skills
Character skills will be rebalanced, with focus on making little used skills better, such as the Druids elemental skills. There will now be Synergies in skills for all classes, ie one skill enhance another just as the Druid's summoning skills.
Valkyrie and Shadow Master now have a delay in casting time, but are beefed up to compensate for this.
Some skills are also getting new graphics.
4.Items
There will be around 100 new unique items, new additional set bonues and rare items will be better. There will of course also be new runewords and new Horadric Cube recipes. There will be new modifiers on items (such as the previously discussed RIP mod which I would love since it would remove the ridiculous power of Nihl's Corpse Explotion at Hell), and there will be a new hidden effects for completing the class specific sets. For most classes it will be only a graphical effect such as an aura or looking ethereal (Assassin) but the Necro will be able to transform inte a Vampire when he completes Trang Oul's set!
You will be able to upgrade unique items in the cube, so a normal unique can now be upgraded to an exceptional and elite. So if you find a normal unique with nice mods, you will now be able to use it longer!
High level runes will be easier to get since all runes are now upgradable in the Cube. The Hellforge and the Countress will also drop better runes.
The likelyhood to get unique, set and rare items from gambling have been increased.
You will now be able to unsocket items with the Horadric Cube.
Oh, and potions are also upgraded, plus you will be able to buy mana potions in shops now. It will be more difficult to make rejuv potions though.
5. XP
The XP penalty (ie the dimish in rewards when your char has reached high levels) will now start as early as lvl 70, making it more difficult to reach higher levels, and considerably more difficult to reach lvl 99. It will be more difficult for low-level chars to leach XP, since both the balance between char lvl/monseter lvl is rebalanced, and characters must now be much closer to a monster in order to gain XP. So no more rushed lvl 10 chars standing just outside town in Hell BF-runs.
5.MF-ing
Magic Find will no longer work on certain boss monster and superuniques. Monsters will drop better the first time it is killed by a character on that difficulty level. Item drops has also been adjusted to reflect also how easy it is to get to a monster, so Mephisto- and Pindleskin-runs will not be as rewarding.
6.The World Event
On the realms (not open and not single player games), players will be able to trigger a new, secret event. It is not known what it is, Blizzard has only released a cryptic screenshot as a clue. In the screenshot, a Barb standing at Charsi in Rouge camp is seen, and it the left corner there is a text: "9 Stones of Jordans sold". Speculations are high!
7.When, when, when?
Nobody knows. Blizzard has said "soon" for a long time now...and we all know what a Blizzard-soon is like...no use to guess, really. The most precise official statement I have found was the 3rd of June, when they said "Not in the next couple of weeks likely"
Did I forget something? If so, I'll add that later, the 1.10 patch will introduce a lot of differences, which I very much look forward too.
EDIT: A very important change regarding PK:ing is the introduction of a timer when you go hostile on someone, so surprise PK:ing will not happen anymore.
