Just Starting

Post by Gwerllyd »

I've just started playing the first Diablo game and haven't had much difficulty so far, except now that I've delved into the first level of the dungeon [I know; big deal] I keep seeing monsters that need to be killed, but I can't get to them -- either I can't open the door or there's no way to that part of the dungeon. I know there's got to be a simple answer -- if someone would tell me what it is! I'd really like to move ON with this thing, but I can't find anything left to kill except the monsters I can't get to!!!

i havent played in a while so this may be vague, but if i recall correctly on level 4 if you have the ogdens sign quest there are monsters that cannot be released till you trigger an open door. to do this you need to talk the unique carver and retrieve the sign from a chest guarded by a bunch of really big (pixel big, not level big) ugly demons. if this is the case, kill 'em, get the sign and talk to the unique carver (snotspill?) and it will open up the the stairs.

the only other thing i can think of is a glitch in the map creation. you could save your game and then start a new game with that character. if you are only a few levels down then you will only need about 10 minutes to recover lost ground or an 30 minutes if you intend to clear the first levels in your new game.

Moving Along...........The Butcher

Well, I've managed to zap all the monsters on level 1 of Diablo 1 and the only living thing on level 2 is the Butcher, but try as I might, I can't seem to kill him [with my level 7 character]. I've tried the chase-and-run trick that the few cheats I've read tells me to do, but only gets me killed -- using the bow & arrows and letting him chase me down the hall to a room I can see out of [but he can't see into -- and how can I tell WHICH room that is??] only works until I get to the door, but I just GET to the door when he zaps me -- I rarely manage to get inside, and when I do, I can't get the door shut. I've tried using brute strength and conventional weapons, but so far nada.
They talk about "grates" in the doors that you can see out of, but for the life of me, I can't tell which door has a grate and which one doesn't, and seeing I've killed everything, there's nothing lurking behind the door for me to see when it's still closed. Help? I wanna kill this guy and get ON with it -- when I'm not trying to kill the Butcher, I'm poking around on levels 3, 4, 5, & 6 and living to tell the tale. So what am I doing wrong?

The place to use the bows cheese is where you have bars that you can see through. They look just like you would image the entrance to any old prison cell :) It might also be a good idea to have learnt fireball so that you can blast him with it from time to time as he has ALOT of hitpoints.
