Amazon Attack Rating

Post by Arrow »

Folks,

I'm playing regular D2 in single player mode, I'd like to know how does attack rating apply to the Amazon who always uses a bow ?

I'm asking because I've picked up some items that adds alot of attack rating points but I'm undecided if I should pond them and keep items that offer protection instead.

anyone care to comment ?

regards,

its been a long while since ive played but isnt attack rating for accuracy? that would mean you hit more often with a higher attack rating right?

Sean is right, Attack rating (AR) is your chance to hit a monster. It doesn't increase how many attacks/frame you do, that is decided by IAS, but it decides your chance to hit with your attack. Since different monsters have different defense, your % chance to hit with an attack depends on both your AR and the monsters defense. If you hover your mouse tracer on your AR figure on the character screen, you will the chance to hit the last monster you battled with, for instance "chance to hit Ghoul lord 92%".

Since a bowazon always want a very high AR, you are better off with items that give you %AR than a fix number. However, your attack speed, IAS, is more important than AR. You increase both your AR and your damage by putting points in dex, but IAS is only depending on your equipment. There are certain breakpoints for IAS for different bow types, that are good to check out. I can post them here if you like.

Folks,

Thank you for the reply. Much appreciated.

C Elegans, Over the week end I was able to get alot of play time done, which gave me time to better understand how the character points (AR, life, dex ...) work.

Sure, that would be nice.

Next thing I'd like to try is creating a bowasons and freaking it by putting all it's character points into one category like AR or dex. just as an experiment, to see how it handles.

@Arrow and Sean: putting all stat points in dex works perfectly fine with a bowazon. In fact, that's how I usually build my bowazons. I use items and charms to get str enough to use my bow and other equiment, and to get life enough to survive. A small charm of vita with 20 life saves you many stat points! An all dex bowazon is a very efficient and speedy build if you have good equipment. She is fragile though, so you need to stay at some distance from the monsters, and use your merc, valkyrie and decoy wisely.

Here are the IAS tables for different bows, from Amazonbasin:

Normal attack

-10 WSM bows - Hunter's, Composite, Razor, Double, Blade, Great, Matriarchal
0% IAS, 12 frames
8% IAS, 11 frames
22% IAS, 10 frames
42% IAS, 9 frames
75% IAS, 8 frames
142% IAS, 7 frames

0 WSM bows - Long, Short Battle, Stag, Short War, Cedar, Short Siege, Ashwood, Rune, Ward, Diamond, Shadow
0% IAS, 13 frames
9% IAS, 12 frames
20% IAS, 11 frames
37% IAS, 10 frames
63% IAS, 9 frames
105% IAS, 8 frames
200% IAS, 7 frames

5 WSM bows - Short, Edge, Spider
0% IAS 14 frames
6% IAS 13 frames
15% IAS 12 frames
27% IAS 11 frames
46% IAS 10 frames
75% IAS 9 frames
125% IAS 8 frames
240% IAS 7 frames

10 WSM bows - Long Battle, Long War, Reflex, Large Siege, Gothic, Ceremonial, Hydra, Crusader, Grand Matron
0% IAS, 15 frames
4% IAS, 14 frames
11% IAS, 13 frames
22% IAS, 12 frames
35% IAS, 11 frames
56% IAS, 10 frames
89% IAS, 9 frames
147% IAS, 8 frames
292% IAS, 7 frames

Strafe breakpoints for bows

-10 WSM Bow - Hunter's, Composite, Razor, Double, Blade, Great, Matriarchal
0% IAS 13/3
2% IAS 12/3
13% IAS 11/3
15% IAS 10/3
37% IAS 9/3
60% IAS 9/2
80% IAS 8/2

0 WSM Bow - Long, Short Battle, Stag, Short War, Cedar, Short Siege, Ashwood, Rune, Ward, Diamond, Shadow
0% IAS 13/3
13% IAS 12/3
26% IAS 11/3
29% IAS 10/3
56% IAS 9/3
86% IAS 9/2
113% IAS 8/2

5 WSM Bow - Short, Edge, Spider
0% IAS 14/4
6% IAS 13/3
19% IAS 12/3
34% IAS 11/3
37% IAS 10/3
68% IAS 9/3
102% IAS 9/2
133% IAS 8/2

10 WSM Bow - Long Battle, Long War, Reflex, Large Siege, Gothic, Ceremonial, Hydra, Crusader, Grand Matron
0% IAS 15/4
3% IAS 14/4
11% IAS 13/3
26% IAS 12/3
42% IAS 11/3
46% IAS 10/3
80% IAS 9/3
120% IAS 9/2
157% IAS 8/2

Since 1.10, I have only built Strafezons, and I usually go for 120 IAS with a Hydra bow since Windforce (WF) is a hydra bow. WF has 20 IAS as a mod, so that means I need 100 more IAS from my equipment. I don't like to socket my WF with a Shael rune since the damage go up so much if you put a good max damage or even better, Enhanced Damage(ED)/max dam jewel in it. Instead, I use items like Mavs diadem (30 IAS and you can socket it with an IAS jewel), gloves with IAS, armour with IAS, Cat's eye amulet etc.
