You can get set items anywhere in the game, but boss monsters (ie those who have a name) have a greater chance of dropping them. You can also increase your chances that monsters will drop set items by increasing your MF (magic find). (Many items in the game have MF as an attribute).

What do you mean with home network? I am not good with computers, but if you want to play locally, ie on a local network, this is fine but there are some features of the game and some items that can only be experienced when you play online, at Battlenet.

One can always play a single player or multi player game on a home network (assuming one has multiple pc's/copies of the game). However, to play on Diablo 2's battle.net realms, one must have a pc connected to the internet.
