For many of us, pvp is boring, because we don't spend the time to become uber. Being one hit killed just isn't fun. What is fun, and what WoW does so wonderfully, is bring together people of all levels and classes, and pits them together in furious combat.
Anyone who's ever fought in a large raid knows this, just last week Crossroads was turned into a bloody battleground as a group of alliance priests, paladins, warriors and a mage all of high level brought the fight to horde territory, and were confronted by a much larger group of lower level players, who eventually prevailed by sheer numbers.
So when blizzard says the're bringing in BATTLEFIELDS, where many players can engage in capture the flag -ish battles, and summon giant elementals from the blood of their opponents, I just can't help but shiver with anticipation.
Is it consentual PvP areas for all servers where people are automatically flagged as PvP'ers - or is it simply new areas for the PvP servers?
It's the first alternative. I don't know the actual workings of the battlegrounds but they seem to be like instance dungeons where two raid parties of opposing factions can battle. The cool thing is that there are as well quests in these areas that lower and higher level characters can carry out as well as doing PvP. Low level chars can for example try to distrupt the food supply to the other factions keep while a higher level rouge tries to assasinate the other factions battle commander etc etc.
Eventually blizzard are planning (in a year or so they say) to implement siege engines in battle fields and loads of more battle fields (as of now there is only one and I'm not sure if that one is open for gamers...)

I put the 'laughter' back in 'slaughter'

Well - then I'm even closer to selecting PvE servers to play on if there is the possibility for "easy" consentual PvP.
I dislike the (usual) atmosphere of full PvP servers in MMOGs and many other games ..... it always seems to attract a good amount of "leet kiddies"
So if these battlegrounds works something like I think they do (will still have to look more into it) - then I'll likely go PvE to minimize the griefing possible.... perhaps even RP PvE servers

At times I wish I'd chosen a PvP server, but that's only when I'm stronger than those I pass. I think I'd be the whoopey more often than whooper
And battlegrounds just looks like an amazing venue to carry on the warcraft series in. It's just a matter of time until the burning legion returns.
