Only if you have the LoD expansion. Let your mouse hover over the merc's portret in the top-left corner of the screen for a second until it blinks, right-click, open your own inventory and give him/her weapons and equipment.

Another thing...
Another useful option is to hold shift + 1, 2, 3, 4 to give your merc the corresponding potion from your belt, you may have known this though
