chests in trees

How do you get to the chests/barrels/baskets stuck in holes inside trees?

If the trees have doors, then there should be a button that you can push. Zoom in your mini-map and look for a blue dot.

I've tried that but can't seem to find any. I've pushed everything not nailed down. I'm probably missing the obvious.

When you face the entrance to the tree, the button is almost always (or maybe always) on the inside wall on the left.
