Finding Runes

Post by Piff »

Where is the best place to find high leveled runes? I ussually go to the countess in hell but the ones i find are not that great, and it takes a long time to get there because i dont have anyone powerful enough to get to her.

Apart from Hell rune rushes and the Countess, the High council, Hephasto and generally all places with ghost-like monsters are good for rune finding. Ghosts have a higher percentage chance to drop items from the class runes belong to. I mostly do rune finding in Act 4. Best drop I ever had was a Ber in Chaos Sanctuary :)

Runes Mal and up have less than 1 in 100000 chance to drop, high runes 1 in a couple of millions. It's pure luck, and the area you play in doesn't really matter much, as long as the monsters are able to drop high runes.

Yup, its a quantity of kills over quality when it comes to runes. So any area where the monsters are thick and you can kill thme quickly with your build is a good area. One of my favorites is also hell cows using a javazon. Have only gotten mals, but quite a few of them.

So really what everyone's saying is "Zod not happening, not in a million years"

~

Strange enough though I have notices that while playing online more runes seem to drop, especially in Normal - Act One: Monstary area. When my friend and I went through we found dozens of Ral, Nef and Tal runes. I've always thought of finding such runes in such a low level area suspicious, especially in my hundreds of run throughs in single player I've never seen better than maybe an El.

Agree, the reason I like to play in areas with many ghosts, is because they have a slightly higher chance to drop items from the drop class runes belong to. That also means a slightly higher chance to drop jewels, and a 15/40 jewel for my Strafezon to put in a WF is still a dream :D (Best I ever found was 15/32 two ladders ago)

The chance for a Zod to drop is very, very low but of course it can happen - just don't wait for it :D

If you are more people in the game, more items drop. Maybe it's because you play with your friend that you find more runes online, or maybe it's just a coincidence.

Some number crunching: the monster with the highest chance of dropping a Zod is hell Hephasto, and that chance is...

0,0000003% , or 1 in 333 million. Well hurrah for that! </blackadder quote> ;)

According to the ATMA V drop calculator, Hephasto has a 0.00003% chance to drop a Zod...not exactly high, but considerably higher than 0.0000003%...where did you find that figure, Molto? I don't know if ATMA is correct or not.

Again, according to ATMA, a a Hell ghost-type moster (Burning Soul, Ghost, Gloam, Storm Caster etc) has a 0:000008% chance to drop a Zod. Other normal monsters (ie not champions or bosses and the like) has about 1/3 less chance.

Here:
http://atma.diabloii.net/

Just download and install. I use only the drop calculator function. ATMA is a utility made for Single player item viewing and organisation, but since I don't play Single player I have never used these function. Remember that ATMA is a third-party software - I do not recommend that you use it for anything else than the drop calculations.

Is it bannable? Or would I run the risk of it saving my accnt/login? ( The portion other than the calc.) Not that I need an item viewer or organizer lol just wondering.

No, since you can only use it in Single Player, it is not bannable.

ATMA is actually one of the few legal, trustworthy, and handy programs you can use to enhance SP Diablo. It makes it really easy to mule items between SP characters without the need of running diablo twice in some way.

@CE: I was indeed wrong, I misinterpreted the numbers in the ATMA calculator. It's 0.00003%, not 0.0000003%. My apologies.
