A pet question
I've got another question for the multitudes of "most excellent gamers" out here on Dungeon Seige II today. This one concerns the "proper devolpment" of our pets in said game. I understand that they take the place of one of our team members and that in order to grow,that we must feed them in order for them "to mature" into formiable "party members". My question deals with exactly what is the "best stuff" to "feed" them with?. I'd imagine that the "food of choice" would greatly depend upon exactly what attribute(s) that you'd like your "pet to possess" after it's "all grown up". Am I correct in my understanding in this matter and is there any sort of "guide" that covers this sort of thing yet;or is it yet to be "created"?. I've been feeding my "Pet" scorpion Queenie a fine mixture of magical ranged weapons and mage type armour;with a generous "sprinklin" of magical spells and she's getting to be a :mischief: "Big Girl".:mischief:
I appriciate any and all help in this matter and await your replies.
We didn't go into that much detail on pets. You can find a pet guide here.

Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

Nice guide I am reading it. I noticed a point which is very very different from what I quote. It's about the Dire Wolf. I agree with the guide that it's not a really good pet but the main reason that I noticed is that he deals good damages its hit rate is very slow plus it moves slowly.
The Dire Wolf that I fed with armor and fighter weapons had very high life and AC. But that depends a lot of the feeding.
Another point I disagree with is the guide said that its power is quite weak. In fact tts conic area and low range force you to use it tactically. You need place the Dire Wolf at the right place at the right time when you use its power. that makes it a good tactic tool. The weal point of this power is its recharge rate which is only normal when it should have been faster.
Some examples of stats that depends of the feeding:
* Level 22:
Feeding : Str 12 + AC 20% + Str 12; Life 52 + AC 20% +16 Dex; Str 12 + AC 20% + Str 12; (still not young).
Stats: 101/41/32; AC 186; Life 690; Damages 64-108
That are AC and life stats not easy to get at level 22.
* Level 31:
Feeding : Str 12 + AC 20% + Str 12; Life 52 + AC 20% +16 Dex; Str 12 + AC 20% + Str 12; AC 20% + Str 12 (still not young adult).
Stats: 145/52/41; AC 291; Life 1109; Damages 99-166
That will be again quite tough to get at this level such a life level and even this AC level.
* Level 44:
Feeding : Str 12 + AC 20% + Str 12; Life 52 + AC 20% +16 Dex; Str 12 + AC 20% + Str 12; AC 20% + Str 12; Str 12 + Str 30
Feeding Bonus Sum = Str 102; AC 80%; Life 52; Dex 16
Stats: 242/70/54; Life 2109; AC 425; Damages 167-279
Level 44 is high but such a life and AC will be hard to get with a fighter. Damages seems ok but in fact the slow hit rate makes it weak for damage rate.
I think that a good feeding goal for the Dire Wolf is AC 80% and everything else on Str. That could be better than the Dire Wolf I tried that was doing not enough damages.
In no way it can match a fighter of any type because of its lack of powers diversity, no magic resitance, weak damage rate. But its a good pet to replace a fighter in order to have a higher difficulty. But as the guide I think the Mythrilhorn is a much better and much more interesting choice.

About the Mythrilhorn, there are few details I think important and the guide doesn't mention:
- Firstly it hits faster than the Dire Wolf and can start hitting at range 2 which means it hits much more harder than the Dire Wolf despite I think it has lower min and max damages.
- Very importanly it's normal attack is enough to provoke the attacked monster to attack it. It makes it a very usefull pet to use tactically.
- Also very very important is that agaisnt most if not all close range enemies it force them drawback, this not only make them lost time but also make the Mythrilhorn moves a lot and when it moves it makes other enemies that attack it fail a hit and loose time. That reduce the importance of it's emanation because it is often lead far from other members.
- Its power restoration rate seems strangely fast. Not sure why but it seems that it is restored not only by its attacks. Anyway it's the fastest power restoration rate I noticed.
I agree with the guide that the feeding could concentrate on Armor, but I think that mixing armor and fighter weapons feeding is a good option.
Overall the Mythrilhorn is a quite good support of a non fighter Tank. It is a sort of secondary Tank and main tank helper. I was using Finala the Warrior Mage specialized in Death magic as a Tank and the Mythrilhorn was a quite good helper. The best is that it makes fighting more funny without to fail into using too powerfull fighter.
