Well, the title says it all. I haven't played yet, and wondering whether it's worth buying it now and why?

I got the game several weeks ago and loved it. SeriousOmar pretty much summed it up with his post. It's a little weird at first but frickin' cool once you get used to it.

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
Her hardest hue to hold.

Planescape has a great storyline(better than BG2 IMHO ) and really cool NPCs.The only bad thing would be that it could only be played at 600x480 resolution,so the characters look rather big on the screen

Kayless-Having bigger characters indeed look better(the characters in Planescape look a whole lot better than the ones in BG2),but having to play it at such a low resolution makes it harder to cast area of effect/ranged spells

I only finished Planescape Torment a few weeks ago, after playing both IWD and BG2. Its very different and very cerebral. Storyline is everything, and practically every reply you choose with a NPC has an effect on the plot. The speed of action tends to be bit slower than IWD or BG2 and weapons choice is quite limited (very few swords and vertually no missle weapons). If your a hack and slash freak forget it. I quite enjoyed it but would recommend you get hold of a good walkthrough, due to the meandering nature of the plot. These can be quite long. The one at http://guides.ign.com/guides/9939/ runs to over 130,000 words!
@Minerva, It is really is worth playing this game. It has an awesome story line, and you just have to see Mort using his curses in battle
You shouldn't worry about a walkthrough. We will be posting one here right at GameBanshee. In the mean time, I am of course available for questions.

It's definitely worth playing if you enjoy the CRPG Infinity engine, and want more storyline, character, and playing style options than in BG2. Think of it as being on one extreme of the current spectrum; IWD is on the other, and BG2 is about two-thirds of the way towards P:T.
I found it an excellent game. I do wish it had been balanced for a slightly larger selection of NPCs (there are only 7 in all, plus your own, to build a party of 6), but the game is otherwise very flexible, and really creates a haunting atmosphere through its prose.

Rapier, with respect, as I suggested, P:T isn't IWD. I'd rather play a game with a lot of personal options than a lot of weapons options. But if you really want weapons, I think you're understating the case for P:T.
Consider, off the top of my head:
The Entropic Blade. A talking weapon, +2 THAC0, silver, magical, +2 enchantment.
Widowmaker: +2 enchantment, +2 THAC0, +2 damage, poisons with a successful hit, +25 poison resistance
Runeblade: -4 THAC0, 50% magical resistance
Not to mention that you could keep Trias' sword instead of returning it to him, in which case you can remake it into a dagger, gauntlets, club, axe or hammer which does 3-18 damage, +10 fire damage, and has a +3 enchantment! Given the level of opponents, these are extremely powerful weapons in the game.
There are also a ton of oddball enchanted weapons, including many gauntlets, teeth, daggers, tons of interesting bolts (like the Bolts of Wincing, which are +1 enchanted and do +6 slashing damage when they hit).

I bought the game around this time last year, played it half way through, found a new game to play, and stopped. I kind've regret it now, becuase I made it that far, then erased my file. Well, in light of the new walkthrough being posted, I think I'll start again. Let's go bust some Dusties!

If you have questions, Aegis, just put 'em up in a new folder, here--maybe related to area, or character, or fighting strategy. I'm sure everybody who can, will help.

In a pleasant change of pace for me, I'm actually going to make a positive post instead of my usual fare of bile and hate. Enjoy. (grin)
Planescape is definitely worth getting. It's vastly superior to anything in the BG series, and extra-vastly superior to IWD. (In my opinion, anyway.) It's one of the best, if not THE best, computer RPGs out there. But, it's not for everybody...as evidenced by the incredibly poor sales, especially compared to the aforementioned inferior games. It really depends on what you want.
The way I see it, games like Icewind Dale represent one extreme end of the spectrum of this genre, and games like Planescape represent the other end. IWD is pretty much a pure dungeon crawl, with very little in the way of NPC interaction or story. (Which to me is about as interesting as watching my neighbor's dog lick himself.) Planescape, on the other hand, is almost all NPC interaction and story. In Ps:T what you say is more important than what you poke holes into with pointy things, which is a pretty far cry from IWD. There's fighting and some dungeon crawling, of course, but it takes a backseat to the (fascinating) story.
So, basically, if you're big on plot and character, go for it. In my opinion it's an incredibly good game, and since my opinion is the only one that counts just ignore the fact that almost no one bought it and go get the game. Besides, at this point it's only about $20, so you don't really have anything to lose.

Hell, the hilarious free holiday patches for Annah and Morte alone are worth $20. Heh.

Gentlemen,
Thank you all for your replies.
You did great job to tempt me...
I will clutter this new forum with my questions later (I am re-playing BG1 at the moment, so need a few weeks to actually start a new game).

Great story (better than BGII); great character interaction (real romance); different from any other game you've ever played (for me it was so); great replay value......need more????

PS:T is an incredible game. I started playing, and had trouble stopping. (Woa, where did the night go, it's morning already? ) I only wish they would put that wonderful right-click menu into the BG games.
