Hi all, thanks for listening in.
Recently I've installed Titan Quest, which by now, I know is infamous for its crashes. What would happen is that the game would first crash, with the screen going blank and the power saving mode coming on. I would then have to hard-reset.
I've since uninstalled the game, but now I cannot even go into windows. I believe the CPU runs perfectly except that within seconds of my startup, the screen goes blank and power saving mode comes on. I do not know what else to do except to hard reset. In any case, I never reach Windows.
I'm accessing this forum from a computer at work. I believe this game has a reputation for overheating the video card, which then has some sort of safety limit over which it automatically shuts down the computer/video card or something.
Question is, what should I do now? I need a proper diagnosis for the issue yet I cannot even enter setup. The screen goes black in power saving mode. I think it's the video card that has gone bonkers but I can't be sure. Is the solution just to buy a new card? Mine is an old ATI Radeon 9800 series. I do not know anything more about it.
Thank you for your attention!
CPU Crash
I have that very same problem on my computer when playing the demo version of Titan Quest. Always keep crashing to a blank screen and I had to force reset the computer.
I doubt it has anything to do with the video card overheating. Anyway, one tip is to lower the DirectX sound acceleration as I've read somewhere that you need to do so when playing some select games in order to run properly. Tried it before and the demo worked without crashing the game. Might be able to work on the full version.
Hope this helps.
