CPU Crash

Hi all, thanks for listening in.
Recently I've installed Titan Quest, which by now, I know is infamous for its crashes. What would happen is that the game would first crash, with the screen going blank and the power saving mode coming on. I would then have to hard-reset.
I've since uninstalled the game, but now I cannot even go into windows. I believe the CPU runs perfectly except that within seconds of my startup, the screen goes blank and power saving mode comes on. I do not know what else to do except to hard reset. In any case, I never reach Windows.
I'm accessing this forum from a computer at work. I believe this game has a reputation for overheating the video card, which then has some sort of safety limit over which it automatically shuts down the computer/video card or something.
Question is, what should I do now? I need a proper diagnosis for the issue yet I cannot even enter setup. The screen goes black in power saving mode. I think it's the video card that has gone bonkers but I can't be sure. Is the solution just to buy a new card? Mine is an old ATI Radeon 9800 series. I do not know anything more about it.
Thank you for your attention!
